The unemployment figures for PA are OBVIOUSLY wrong. Why? Because as an unemployed person, I cannot file claim over the phone (they do not answer). If you send a fax, there is NO pompt response to even know if they received the fax, so you're hanging in limbo.
Just try, say, reopening a claim online, and you are sent, literally, IN CIRCLES with inconsistent terminology and cues that made the whole online process NOT USER FRIENDLY. This is NOT A NEW ISSUE, and it's been getting worse for many years!
Here I am (haha) several days after the initial layoff, having called and sent a fax (which got no response). In desperation resorted to, once again, attempting to reopen my claim online, but I think I screwed it up, and now I don't know where to turn.
Average bluecollor people I know have given up on the process! Imagine, people are losing money and others lost so much faith in the system that they don't even apply for benefits. Haha. How nice. In the end, Pennsylvania's unemploymenet figures look surprisingly better while our local politicians put feathers in their caps. At whose expense?????? MINE and all the other hardworking people who can't make ends meet.
1)Fix the outdated online system so I can open or reopen a claim with EASE! Stop making me have to constantly reopen a claim and bog down an already bogged down system.
2) Fix the culture that facilitates laziness and snappy, spiteful UC department telephone representatives who lack accountability to anyone, ESPECIALLY the UNEMPLOYED worker/voters of the Commonwealth who end are at these people's mercy!!!!!
Haha. Here I sit. And I can't do anything to fix the situation. If I get through the phonelines next week, the snappy phone rep will say "why did it take you so long" and basically say I'm a liar when I tell him/her about the phonelines and the fax I sent a week earlier.
Fellow unemployed workers: You have a vote. Use it! VOTE ALL OF THEM OUT! Stop letting your state representatives run the show! Make them accountable for everything, not just the crappy unemployment system.
Of course I'm angry. Angry as ever! FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!!

The online system has not worked properly for many years. At one time there was a feedback form which I, personally, filled out a number of times. When I pressed the "send" button the form was deleted and an error message popped up. What a waste of time. There was also an email link that also DID NOT WORK!
Consequently, today we are left with an INEFFICIENT, OUTDATED website that transfers even more responsibility to the EXPENSIVE hired hands, all at the expense of TAXPAYERS and the UNEMPLOYED while politicians are out shaking hands and giving time-wasting self-praise speeches
Just watch, if this situation makes enough waves,(INSTEAD OF FIXING THE PROBLEMS), politicians will quickly look for more money to hire more UC people, thusly increasing the payroll expense and publicly pat themselves on the back.
Question: Is there an incentive to make the unemployment system more efficient? No way! Why when the system, as-is, creates (artificially) low unemployment figures?

Well 1 or 2 or 5 dishonest people IN NO WAY is a fair representation of all the unemployed citizens of the Commonwealth! What has this got to do with a system that has not been effectively helping the masses of HONEST, unemployed citizens/voters it was set to help in the first place? Nothing.
P.S: When I spoke of the culture and snappy employees I did not mean to say that all employees are are bad. No I don't believe that. However I am fully aware of how just a few bad seeds can infect others and thwart productivity on a large scale, and eventually bring down a whole organization. The solution is definitely NOT TO SPEND more taxpayer dollar to hire more people, who will eventually be infected by same morale lowering elements. No, the solution is to raise morale by, first, raising the bar of excellence (expectations) from the top down. Start with leadership capacities who do all the hiring, training and overseeing. Make accountability to superiors AND the people the department is there to serve THEE number one ethic, alongside SERVING the unemployed. I am not here to attack anyone. All I want is meaningful change because people out here are truly suffering. Thank you.

Regarding the online system, we positively don't need anymore money spend on making the system user friendly. For the time being, those assigned to maintaining the system can begin the process by making sure both entry points ("open a new claim" and "reopen a claim") have their own terminology, and that terminology remains throughout the process.
At one point in the "reopen a claim" process I remember being warned that the "reopen process looks exactly the same as the initial claim process" and then there a link called "new claim application" which really makes you scratch your head, because in the thinking person's mind it looks like you're really entering "Open a new claim" mode.
Solution:. The link to the applicatin for reopening a new claim should be titled exactly that: "Reopen Claim Application". Thereafter, each and every page in the process should have the title "Reopen Claim Application" at the top since applicant might need confirmation that they are in the right place.
Another issue is that applicants, for some unknown reason, can graviate into the "open a new claim" mode and complete the process. Question: Why wasn't the system set up to automatically detect when an initial claim is being improperly refiled, and then send up a warning pop-up that says something like
"You already have an open claim, please use "reopen claim" link" Not having this important feature in software, no doubt, is creating countless hours of wasted staff time to correct such problems, and payment delays for applicants.

My goal is to help solve the problems, not complain. If anyone is reading this, thank you!

FILING A BI-WEEKLY CLAIM:
Modern workplaces have been open around the clock, 24/7, for at least 2 decades. Bi-weekly claim filing shold also be available 24/7 to alleviate some of the stress we are under.
For anyone interested, online filing is limited to
6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday
6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Serve the voter/unemployed more efficiently by providing an operating 24/7 website!

My husband got unemployment while working as an employee at his daddy's catering buisness.
William R. Curry worked at Eco lab until he was fired for sexual harrassment and other things. This guy get's unemployment (in my opinion illegally he knew someone perhaps)than as he's collecting his checks he's working on record at his Daddy's Plain and Fancy Catering Buisness as a vertified employee this can be verified @eatsafepa.com through inspections data base search free to the public it's the department of agriculture. I reported this illegal crap to every agency and law-enforcement. They do nothing the cops say fraud is out of there jurisdiction and the hotlines don't work either now it's public record look up william R curry in the criminal system you don't see any fraud charges yet do you?
It's sad people that actually deserve it can't get it becuase after scumbags like my husband are done there known frauding and getting away with it (u'm sure he's not the only one) there's no more money left.
If any one want's more info or for me to be a witness my address can be found at yorkcountypa.gov through civil case # 2011-FC-000338-15 I even published this information in my divorce support case and the COURTS DID NOTHING CRIMINAL WITH IT.

The hotlines are a joke and so is the ALLEGED FRAUD UNIT. I have to wonder if they are not a scam.
These agencys get funding for investigating fraud and here's a perfect example where the proof is all public record.Yet he is still free and frauding, I guess if you have or get lots of money than your fraud is worth pursuing but if your a bum like my husband who collects money off the record to avoid support and taxes why should the department waste there time and prosecutors money?

I know i wish my husband would get a job. Than he could stop his frauding at your and the rest of the taxpayers expence
Maybe he can get a job at the FRAUD DEPARTMENT THE DOESN"T EXIST ecxcept IF your a person ripping off lot's of money the little guy is no longer worth it
Now I will spend my time educating the people of such things.
Perhaps von what ever when you are wronged and frauded you will change your mind
Don't like what your reading go work some over time this is not a complaint department it's a place to talk about news not your little feelings they have mental health programs for that perhapsz you should check them out

I find your comments interesting. I think only frauders who are doing such stuff are the only ones to complain about the posts.
Real taxpayers don't want scumbags like my husband to collect there tax dollars illegally. I find most of the time the ones complaining are the ones who have something to hide

I was one of those people who got laid off in 2010 and I filed my claim online. I didn't have one bit of trouble with any aspect of the online system. I did occasionally experience getting busy signals when I had to call in. I merely called back and left a call back phone number. I had to stay glued to my phone.

I also wanted to let you know I am gainfully employed now. I got laid off at 53 and one of the reasons I was successful in reinventing myself is because I kept up with technology. I was also very persistent. Let me tell you though, it wasn't easy.
