Graffiti in Lockport

I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the graffiti that seems to be popping up everywhere in Lockport? After doing some research, it appears to be gang-related (the symbols and such) but I don't know if it's anything to be concerned about? Thoughts?

So just ignore the problem, huh? Yeah, that will do a lot. We'll just wait until morons (gang or otherwise) have tagged everything that doesn't move in Lockport, and then we'll to wake our lazy azzes up and think about considering to perhaps maybe address the issue at some later date to be determined later.

We don't need to tax our precious decision making abilities on something like this until Lockport is known far and wide as the place NOT to move to because it's a graffiti laden hole. We need to conserve our precious decision making abilities for more pressing things like who performed best on Dancing with The Stars.

I'm not a fan of the graffiti, but we also need to do something about the local crime in the area, which of course, we never see in the paper.

A couple of weeks ago Coldwell Banker was broken into and some computers and stuff were stolen and last night someone broke into Nancy's Pizza by breaking the glass in the front door.

Why isn't this stuff in the paper and what are the police doing about it?

First off, just because someone is a vandal, does not make them a moron. I suppose that is why I am on a higher level of pay than most people posting here.

No one is suggesting we ignore the problem. Vandals should be arrested, but then allowed a chance to appear before court, and granted the oppurtunity to attend a taxpayer funded class.

The solution to this problem lies within our communitee. We need to take a look at youths, minorities in particular, and provide them with better oppurtunitiees. You can't pretend to oppress all the kids in Fairmont year after year, and not be expecting them to get outraged in the community. Blacks in Lockport are dealt a bad hand from the start, and the oppression continues throughout the rest of their life.

To avoid vandalism in the future, here is the solution, after a child is caught vandalizing in our community, they are put on a probationary measure for one year. Then after completing their one year term they are awarded a $5,000 taxpayer funded grant to study at a IL public uniserity of their choice, in an effort to award their good behavior.

I believe we can all see eye to eye on this as the responsible solution for the community.

Join me on protecting and educating our community.

The only people holding the kids in Fairmont back are the parents themselves. You can't blame the community for someone else's failures. Why don't you blame the 74% mobility rate or 6.6% of chronic truants at Fairmont. The numbers for KG were 17.1% mobility and 1.9% chronic truants.

Lockport Opinion, ADMIT I am correct on this issue, and that we aren't rewarding kids for bad behavior, but rewarding them for behaving properly. This will teach kids to behave properly because the society they live in, cares about them.

This is a very timely thread as I was about start one myself on the same subject. It is my opinion that a good deal of the graffiti started towards the end of last summer with ground zero being the little neighborhood of frame ranches and apartments at the north west quadrant of 159st and Farrell across the street from the Walgreen’s. Now that the warmer weather is here take a ride down those streets just north of 159st and west of Farrell when summer comes. All you will see is a bunch of punkass gang banger wannabes milling around in packs day and night. It is no coincidence that the electrical boxes by the Walgreen’s started to get tagged when these losers started to come of age. Also when Stephanellis was being built right down the street they tagged the hell out of the pup trailer dropped in the back of the building. Also last summer the tobacco shop next to Stephanellis was broken into and the Coldwell Banker is right across the street from there. The proximity to that neighborhood is no coincidence. These low rents obviously are very comfortable sh!tting where they eat. I would love to see how tough these faggotass gangbanger wannabes would be if we drop shipped them to 26th and Ridgeway or 63rd and Halsted on a Saturday night in the summer. I bet it wouldn’t take more than 5 minutes for the p!ss to start running down their legs as they cried for their mommy and the safety of suburban Lockport.

Now that the venting is done, is there a graffiti removal program in place here in Lockport or is it up to the property owners to remove the senseless vandalism on their own? Also if anyone sees or knows of any of these punks do the right thing and call the police. There is nothing to be afraid of these kids are just a bunch of pussies pretending to be in a Grand Theft Auto video game. After all that is all their limited intelligence will allow them to be.

I think it was explained pretty clearly in an earlier post - ALL of the kids would go out and perform some vandalism so they could get their $5,000. Sure beats flipping burgers at McDonald's and they would probably make more money by just buy a $2 can of spray paint. You really can't be this simple minded.

I have read your quotes and I find it hard to believe that a moron like you could even hold a job since you spend your entire time posting (I forgot you have a high paid government job screwing up the youth as a guidance counselor “How ironic”). This is coming from a guy who makes twice as much as you and has an actual degree in business from an accredited university,(not Chicago State University Grad like you). Also douche bag, I actually had to pay my own way through school and was not given a government grant because my parents actually worked and could not get subsidized by the government. Furthermore they taught me the concept of hard work and respect for others.
