I am shocked that anyone on Topix knows who Harper Lee is.

Clay is doing a fine job. Maybe that's why some people have negative comments about him.

All I can say is he should have better judgment. He took the word of a straight up liar and manipulator instead of taking the time to find the truth. In the end it cost an honest person quite a bit of money when in fact the other person was in the wrong. That other person tried to USE & ABUSE the legal powers with lies. They were proven wrong of course but it should never have gotten to where it did had Clay used Prudence and the law correctly, I now wonder if that person was a friend of his, in that case it would have been an absolute abuse of power.

He has got to be better than Tom. I think people had pictures of Tom with farm animals or something like that the way he abused the office and did people wrong that were in the right. Welcome to Grayson county.

It could have been bad had I just waited to see what was going to happen.(I was told)
I've never ever been in trouble in my life. Some guy was trying to cheat me out of money he owed me, thought he could bully me and when that didn't work, he went to Mr.Ratley and LIED about the whole deal, which was a Civil matter, but he knew (somehow) that by lying, that it would turn to a criminal matter. I had to pay another lawyer just to call Mr.ratley and show him my proof that I was right and he was lying!! The lawyer told me I could have been arrested...THEN plead my case! How outrageous is that!! Boy I would have been so mad if that had happened. As I said, I've never been in any court system so I don't know how that works but seemed so ridiculous that even the possibility of a person being arrested in a case like this one! The man is lucky I have morals and values because by law, he was wrong and I could have kept all his money and laughed at him! The guy was such a JERK! I still did what was RIGHT by my morals instead of just keeping his money, I do know contact law and was well within my rights to do so, just not that kind of person, even after what he did. He will stand before God and answer to that one! Just SHOCKED that such a thing could actually happen just from one persons side of the story, which was ALL LIES!
I hope your problem wasn't a worse outcome than I had??

I can seriously believe this happened. This guy is short with everyone but he learned it honestly from D.C., who taught him to be the nasty person he is. Clay and Beth appeared to be decent folks before they became part of the "Leitchfield's up and coming" which led them down they same deceitful path that most of the lawyers and judges seem to travel down. It's a "you scratch my back; I'll scratch yours" tag-team. It is all about making the bucks with these guys or ensuring that they are helping the others do so so that they in turn will help them. In my opinion, the best thing we could do for Grayson County is to vote all of these
"deadbeats" out of office and demand that their replacement worries more about what the people think than satisfying the needs of what he deems as his moral obligation to the "good ole boys" of Grayson County.

Okay people, i agree with some prior posts about staying out of trouble & you wont typically have to deal with Mr Ratley or any other attorney for a criminal matter.... BUT for those of you who say Mr Ratley wouldnt know the law if it hit him in the face or he is stupid, ignorant, liar & a crook....all that tells us is that for some reason you have been in trouble and was found guilty OR you have been to Mr Ratley and he wouldnt or couldnt help you., so let me clear it up.
1) Anyone can go to his office and file a criminal complaint on another (assuming it is atleast halfway reasonable AND a criminal matter. From there it is up to the judge to issue a Warrant or Summons. It is the job of the County Attorney to prosecute and be the lawyer for a "victim" of wrongdoing. If Joe files a complaint against Bob, it is Mr Ratleys sworn duty to act as Joe's attorney. He will talk to Joe about what he wants to happen to Bob. Whether it be "stay away from me" or "stay off my property" or "no communication" or even "i want him in jail". Now, from that point forward, Mr Ratley will attempt to talk to Bob if he doesnt have an attorney or will speak to Bob's attorney about the matter. In court, Mr Ratley can only prosecute Bob with what Joe has told him about the case, if what Joe has told Mr Ratley is fiction, that isnt Mr Ratleys fault, he is only speaking for Joe based on what Joe has told him. The burden of proof lies with Joe & Mr ratley, Bob doesnt have to prove he is guilty or not guilty, Joe must do that. If you were found guilty based on fictional testimony, be mad at Joe, not Mr Ratley.
2) If Mr Ratley refused to prosecute a case on your behalf, it is BECAUSE HE DOES KNOW the law and knows that the case doesnt have enough evidence to go to court or it is a civil matter, so why be mad at Mr Ratley because he does know the law & has no desire to waste yours, his or the Judges time?
3) "I wont vote for him again!"....... Im sure Mr Ratley doesnt care a whole lot, how many elections are won by a margin of 5-6 votes?
4) "Thats Grayson County for ya!" Well........ MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!
5) Mr Ratley does a pretty good job as County Attorney, but like all of us, he is capable of making mistakes and being wrong. When he took the Oath of Office, he never agreed to be perfect, always correct or even the best County Attorney there is. He just swore to uphold the law and basically do the best he could.
6) A little over 2012 years ago a pretty popular guy named Jesus Christ was born. About 1,979 years ago he was Crucified. If there was ever a man described to be "perfect", he is the one. Keep in mind, we can all have a different definition of "perfect". As far as Im concerned, Jesus is the only & the last Perfect person, so the next time you make a mistake at your job, the next time you do a part of your job wrong, remember that Mr Ratley has a job and he too is human enough to do it wrong or make a mistake.

I agree with you 100%! The only problem is that the knuckleheads that made all of these negative comments about Mr. Ratley are not literate enough to read or comprehend your post.
