Sadly, all the unique businesses that make a small town special were raped to death by corporate chain restaurants and stores.

Dr. O'neill was the only one I remember there. He had a tech named Joe Popplewell that would always do this trick where he would take his finger off. It took the edge off of what was getting ready to happen (the needle). Great stuff!!
Joe Popplewell also worked with DR. Bland. He was good with kids. I remember the thumb trick. He use to show my kids that trick when I would see him out and about. They may had worked together, but I do know Dr. Bland was in that location.

I am looking for someone who would remember some information about Leitchfield/Clarkson area back in the late 50's early 60's. My mother-in-law was the last of the Skaggs family in her line. She passed away back in July '09 and we want to return her home to Leitchfield, KY where she grew up as a young girl on a farm where her father raised mules. All we know is that what family we are aware of are buried in a place called Rock Creek Cemetary next to a church, that we believe at that time was also Rock Creek Church (maybe baptist). Florence would not speak much of her childhood, as it was less than perfect, but she loved the small town of Leitchfield, her grandmother that lived there, and the last several months of her life, talked about wanting to go home. If anyone can help us find this cemetary/church, an address, phone number a location on a map, we would deeply appreciate it. If you can help, please email me at [email protected], or post your comments here. I will check back in the next few days/weeks in hopes that someone might recall something that could help us.

<quoted text>If I remember right, there use to be dances at the old Women's club on the weekends. I can remember seeing a local band by the name of Union Pacific, I think. They were really good!
As a founding member of the Union Pacific, I really appreciate the nice comment. I'll pass it on to who's still around. We sure had fun back then. We also did quite a few sock hops at the gym. We rented the Women's Club, and sold hot dogs, and cokes, for 50 cents, I think. I'll get back to here soon, still have a lot of good memories to share.....

Unless I missed it, nobody mentioned the Wagon Wheel Buffet, the big Paul Bunyun Statue by Home Plate, the old Ashland by the Mexican restaurant, the Jr. Food store where BB's is now, or the old service station where Brian's Signs is.

Does anyone remember the Tree, I believe that was at the court house, where Tom Dooley was hung. In the movie that portrayed him white. The story I remember he was black and the girl white. They were young & inlove, but when they were caught, she said it was rape. I don't know? I'm now interested in researching this story. The song Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley and something like he got caught in Grayson.

Long ago there was Moorman's Drug Store on the southwest corner of the square (it later became Sisk Drugs) where Mrs. Maude Kinser made the best tuna fish sandwiches in town. Also once upon a time, there was the Horace McClure jewelry repair shop on the square. It was very disorganized but somehow Horace managed to find most of the items he had worked on.
Oh those tuna fish sandwiches.......haven't had one like it since then!!!!!!!!!

I Remember Miss Josie Bruce, we had school at her home. I Remember Miss Clyde my fourth grade teacher. We didn't stay home on snow days, and there weren't any buses. We had galoshes and hi-top shoes.(I think once when there was a complete white-out).(Remember we didn't have street lights). Miss Clyde would blow on my hands to warm them. We sure had a good cook my favorite was white beans with lean strips of real ham, cornbread.
I had Mrs. Joyner, Miss Josie had the other 1st grade class, Miss Mudd (?) 2nd grade, Hoover 3rd., Miss Clyde 4th., Mrs. Elmore 5th, and Opal Thomas 6th. I graduated in '68.
