i've been hearing a lot about the city wanting to restore the old Alice Theater and Alexander Hotel building. Is this a good idea? From what I've heard there is going to be a very big amount of money needed to buy it and put it back to its original state. It's already been determined that a movie theater is not a justified expense but something along the line of stage performances and concerts could be a possibility. Anybody care to voice their opinions or do I need to ask? ha ha

I think it would be wonderful! Movie theater, community theater, historical theater just do something with it! I dunno where the money would come from or if it will ever happen, but i would love to see the theater and hotel both fixed up reopened and the entire square revamped...bring it back old school lets put leitchfield on the map for something other being inbetween 2 lakes.

I agree with you that something needs to be done. It would be great if they could find some investors to put the money together and do it. I'm tired of being the city between the lakes too. Surely there is something else we can offer here.

I was born AFTER it closed down and I would LOVE for it to be restored so I would be able to see the way it was and also wouldnt have to drive to Etown or Bowling Green to watch a movie. I think it should be the same as it was also...a theater, restaurant, and hotel. It would give the younger people something to do besides skate, not everyone skates so what are they supposed to do?

Not sure if you all have been living around here very long but the Middle School has a top notch auditorium. You can go there and have plays and such. The good thing is it won't cost tax payers anymore money, because we've already paid for it. As far as private investors, who would pay that kind of money to restore the building with minimal return?

ON THE FENCE?? No youre not you are against it anyone who can read can tell by the way you pose the question with " unfacts"

1 Yes there is a group that has started a facebook page to see if there is interest in the buildings and possibility of what to dowith the space if it becomes available.

2 Where did you get that the "city" ( I am asuming city council) is who you mean" has looked into anything?( Have some inside info do you ??)

3 If you are not a positive influence into this or ANY project to enhance our community then why be negative?

The price is too high to begin with and it will take a lot more than another 600,000 to fix it. It is full of asbestos and who knows what else. You can't just cover that stuff up. Engineers will have to be hired and they aren't cheap. Fixing a building like that is anything but cheap.

The city council toured the building recently to see what kind of condition it was in. I am not against or for it at this time. I am interested in getting all the info possible before I make a decision which is what everybody should do. As far as facebook goes I hardly think there is anybody in that group that is willing to put up the money for the project. Seems like people here always want somebody else to fund their pet projects. I hardly think I am being negative by asking what people think.

So you are saying you do have inside information as knowing the city council had been to the site before discusion monday night? Still your orginal posthad a negative tone and you know it. If public interest is there suport begets money , if there were no suport then there would be no interest and money.

Either way I am intersted and so are many others there is money available for the right project and I believe this is a viable project. Time will tell. Its stil better than another ball field.....

We have a theater at the middle school all of the things that can be done at the alice theater can be done at the middle school without costing another million.

Just read article in newspaper about the council wanting to buy this place for $400,000 just to keep somebody from turning it into apartments. That's crazy! What does the city need with a 28 room hotel and dining room and run down theater? Guess they all need a room to hide out in. Elder said "a non-profit organization coud be formed to administer the building and to raise funds to renovate it." Why would an organization want to renovate somebody else's building? They would definitely be non-profit for sure after they finished. The city had a deficit of $160,000 this last quarter and they want to take on more expense. Can anybody figure this out? What about you Steven Elder? Care to explain just what your agenda is? Could it be you are trying to lay the ground work for the next election? Sure hope somebody pulls the rug out from under your feet real soon. We can't afford you and your wealthy spending habits.
