Hi, I am wanting to get married but I am afraid i will loose my disability/ssi check. my fiance does not work he takes care of me because i am unable to do most common things like mow the yard, laundry, getting in and out of the bath tub etc. we have been together 12 years and are ready to tie the knot. what do we do?. we can't lose our only source of income, but yet we want to get married. I can't be left alone because of my seizures I have. Any answers would really help. Please no negative comments, some people don't ask to be disabled, it is what your body decides not you. God Bless (my fiance did this thread for me)

I don't think it would matter. My mother received her ssi/disability when she was married.

It won't matter one bit, if he doesn't get any sort of income at all, you are fine.

social security doesn't matter one damn bit, SSI can change.

The difference between SSI and SSD social security disability is work.. Have you worked? If not then you receive SSI (assistance for disabled with low or no income without having worked) and they will lower your amount if your husband has any income.
If you have worked and draw SSD then they won't change it.
Just have a ceremony with friends family and God...paperwork means nothing :) God luck

if he doesnt work or have much $ in the bank, own any property besides where you live, you will have no issues.

ssi an ssdi are two different things. with ssi your spouse can still work, but with limited income, you can own land, house, car, etc, but its also limited on value. my sister draws ssi, her husband works, but he can only make so much a year.every year they tell her how much her husband can make, how much house , proptery, car can be valued at.
