Our county judge and his cronies are not leading us into the future, They are clinging to the past by not promoting restaurants,or improvments around our beautiful lakes that would help keep our children safe and tourist coming back and spending money....They need to be replaced and the sooner, the better...

I would agree 100%. This county keeps going backward and they offer absolutely nothing to make it better. It needs new leadership!!!!!!

I don't understand what your complaint is. How do you suggest they promote restaurants and improvements around the lake areas? It is up to the restaurants to promote their own business, it's called advertising. What do you want to see them do around the lakes? All that property is privately owned so how can they improve it? Each lake also has its own group of supporters called Friends of Nolin and Friends of Rough River that promo their areas and have festivals during the summer that are open for everyone to attend.

I agree. County government has no business getting into the tourist trap/restaurant business, the only thing they should be doing is providing a minimal level of service for the basic needs of the community. By that I mean basic police and fire services, passable roads, and a minimal degree of regulation of things like stray animals, trash disposal, and so on. We have everything that is actually needed, and are getting it at a reasonable price- check your county tax bill.

If someone wants to build a new good restaurant here, more power to them-if the food is good and reasonably priced, people will flock to it, if not they won't; but leave my tax dollars out of it. As far as improvement to the lake areas, the public areas are under state or federal authority anyway, and are fine as they are.

Well, they certainly are providing a MINIMAL level of service but county government should be so much more than police, fire and roads. Look around at surrounding counties and see how they are leaving Grayson County behind. At the rate we are going, in 20 years all we will have is a population on medicaid and food stamps. You teapartyers are too simple minded. FISCAL COURT DOES NOTHING!!!!! WE NEED SOME LEADERSHIP. SOMEONE WHO SEES THE FUTURE AND PREPARES FOR IT!!!! GET IT!!!!!

Frankly, given the direction those other counties are headed (higher taxes, fees and even more intrusive govt. rules and regulation, etc.) I'm fine with being left behind. As my mother used to say- if your friends jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?

I have lived in 4 states, and numerous counties. Including Miami- Dade county in South Florida. Grayson county is one of the nicest towns I have ever lived in, the fact that they still decorate the square for Christmas is unbelievable. Most counties/cities will not spend the labor or resources to do things such as that. As far as promoting restaurants, that's not the governments job. City or otherwise. If you think the surrounding counties are nicer then I'd suggest you move there. I travel to BG everyday for work and GC has the nicest roads between here and BG. Fiscal court does a fine job, if you want something done that isn't within their job description then raise the money and get it done yourself.

Well, unlike you, I was born and raised in this county and really have no desire to move. If you lived in 4 states and numerous counties perhaps you do not have ownership or real interest in this county that I do. And, perhaps you do not havea sense of our history. As a native of this county, I have watched over the years as it has continued to decline while counties around us have not. Unemployment rate is higher than any of the surrounding counties while median income is lower than any of the surrounding counties. We are becoming a welfare county. But, you don't care because you are not from here and you have the resources to drive to another county for work. I am so happy for you. You don't have to face the reality of Grayson County's situation like many of us do. This county has tremendous resources at its fingertips which it should be able to capitalize upon to give people a decent education, decent jobs at a decent rate of pay. You are not from here so you really do not care that our friends and family are struggling. To address these issues is the role of government and from my vantage point, our fiscal court does nothing. Our fiscal court is a joke.

Excuse me for stating the obvious - that Grayson County is becoming a welfare community with nothing more than a bunch of meth head freeloaders spitting out welfare babies like there is no tomorrow. Obviously, you are one of them or a family member of the judge or one of the magistrates if you think everything is okay. When Edmonson and Butler Cunty pass us up in almost every measure, I say it is enough. The judge and fiscal court should actually do something to earn the check they receive every month. I'm staying put so I suggest you move your happy hiney somewhere else.

Unlike you, because I have lived in several other states I also know the reality is that a majority of our entire country is on some type of government assistance. Do you not watch the news? At any point in my previous post did I state that I don't care about GC? No, I did not so please do not put words in my mouth. Just because I am not from here does not mean I don't care about the people here, I have several friends who struggle as well as my fiancÚ who was born and raised here. People are struggling everywhere. If you don't like the situation you are facing then change your circumstances. It sounds like to me you are one of those welfare recipients that you keep bad mouthing who is waiting for the fiscal court to change something for you. Fiscal court cannot force factories to stay open nor can the force companies to create jobs here.

Obviously "right on," is an ignorant imbecile which is EXACTLY why they don't have the resources to drive to BG for a different job or even run for an elected position within their own community. Attacking people for views different of their own shows exactly what kind of thought process they have. Fiscal court isn't going anywhere. Whether you complain on topix or not.

You're right! Let's all continue to live in ignorance and poverty and drug abuse and welfare have no expectations for anything better nor any expectations from our elected officials. And, you call me an ignorant imbecile??? I'm done.

FISCAL COURT HAS NO CONTROL OVER WHO GETS WELFARE. That's your only argument against fiscal court is that this county is on welfare, how is that fiscal courts issue? That's a government much much higher up than the one you are complaining about. Turn on the freaking news once in a while. No one on fiscal court can control who gets welfare in this county, regardless of how many jobs are available, people will still choose not to work and sit on their hind ends and collect a check, it's the way our country is headed.

Do you suggest putting our county in more debt like the City does. Lets put 3 more percent tax on the restaurants and then we can buy some land in wax to build a ball park. How about they build a 4million dollar swimming pool in Big Clifty. Just to let let you know they have McDonalds all over the world, promoting the one's we got aren't going to flood people in.

I believe that there comes a time that people need to realize that the county judge executive needs to be replaced along with his" yes men"! All they are worried about is their paycheck instead of the people they were elected to represent. If you don't believe this, attend one of the Fiscal Court meetings. It is a joke!

The problem is that they do only care about their paycheck. They do back room deals behind closed doors. You could tell that at the last fiscal court meeting. They say all the time that this county would dry up without the property tax money from the lakes. Yet when the lake folks come to a fiscal court meeting they are shunned like outsiders.
