In September 2004, the new Board of Trustees had an agenda. On this agenda the lack of parking was placed high on the list of things to do. Three years later, still no answers.
According to the rules, parking can only be in an assigned space, a driveway, or a garage. Barton Hall is designated an emergency evacuation area, so the spaces are not available. Our difficulty comes in the form of a threatening to fine you letter when too many people show up at our homes. That is more than one car, for most of us with a driveway. For those with assigned spaces, they theoretically can never have company as there is no place for them to park. What are we supposed to do? The Trustees do not consider this quality of life issue important I guess, since they have done absolutely nothing about it. When can we expect a solution? I can only hope it is during my lifetime, but I doubt it. The problem has existed for 34 years and counting. |

JayJay, you haven't read the recent posts in AYS Forum. Today one of the members went to see the Village Manager and found out the parking rules are only for residents..not the visitors. The visitors can park on streets adjacent to the cul-de-sac they live on, if the driveway or front of the house is full of cars. No fine letters will be issued for company!

Hey DW, Nice to see you on this board, too. Yeah, it was a real nice meeting that SS had with the VM. She told him how concerned a lot of us were with Holidays coming up (around 35 at my house)and people getting parking fine letters. He informed her that the rule stood for residents only. I can now take a deep breath and relax. My car will be in the garage. The rest of them can park where they can find room and not block anyone else.

Wonderful! Now they have to resolve issues with their buses. Seems that the disabled - elderly or otherwise infirm are unable to mount the steps of the bus rendering PAID FOR bus service virtually useless to those that chose to live in this 55+ community.
Leisure Village East is fraught with problems. Lifestyle is dictated - the amount of rules and regulations placed on the residents would make your head spin. |

Oh yeah - they dumped their First Aid squad too. Hope no one falls getting on the bus.
Leisure Village East is one of the worst places to choose for retirement living. |

As far as I know, the bus has NO handicapped riders at this time. When that changes so will the bus! It only takes a couple of people saying they heard or know a neighbor who wants to ride the bus to start these stories. No one has called to request the access.

You should not have to call. It should be the standard.

Well, I was a week away from closing, had LVE inspection done, told we needed electric work done, which we did through their list of electricians, vacated our belongings and a WEEK before the closing, our attorney was contacted by the village to be told that the buyer 72yrs old was not allowed to move in because his handicapped NEPHEW who is 54 years old could not move in with him because the RULES are that it is only a son or daughter that can move in not a nephew! Does anyone know WHY such a rule would make a difference to ANYONE in the village?? In the meanwhile the buyer and myself are still in denial and even after a meeting with the committee expressing how I felt made no difference?? Why have meetings to hear what owners have to say if NO exceptions are made to the rules?? The buyers still need a place to live and I still have a condo for sale that is now just a terrible situation for both of us because of a rule that makes no sense! Any residence have an issue with having a man's nephew verses son living in LVE?? Not sure how this committee sleeps at night....

I can't believe that you were actually told that an exception couldn't be made. Do they really think that if people were polled that the nephew would not be accepted in the village? I live here and I think that something should be done about the ridiculous rules. The nephew is disabled too, that is a sin on them to discourage the uncle from moving in for such a strange reason. I agree, I could care less if I saw a his nephew verses his son in the village!!
