LIPA says Leisure Knoll's January bills were inflated

More than 350 residents of the Leisure Knoll senior community in Ridge received inflated LIPA bills in January because of improper meter entries in December, the authority acknowledged Friday at a crowded forum to address soaring winter electric bills.

When these people were complaining last month, I don't think it was over $18. The meter reader should be fired. There is no reason anything other than doing your job properly should be accepted. He cheated, he got caught, he's out!!! However, to try and appease these seniors, LIPA threw him under the bus.

Now we know that LIPA dosen't read meters it just estimates> How about sending a meterman around to actually check the meters and send a REAL BILL? Call and ask for a actual meter read each month and see what your answer is. They will tell you that they are understaffed and can't do it, but you are more than welcome to read your own meter and send it in.

I know because I've called many times.
You would think with all that fat at the top of LIPA, they can't hire enough indians to run around and really take care of us, the ratepayers.....and you wonder why there is so much opposition towards wind farms and solar energy...the company will lose money, meanwhile, there should be an investigation on the entire Island, is this an isolated incident or are all the meter readers lazy....and we're paying for it????

LIPA was always crooked including"FATBOY KESSEL" Before I moved off of LI in 2005 I received a bill for $178.00 with a $128.00 fuel surcharge which they claim was a delivery charge. Whats wrong with that picture??? What other kind of charges were they sneeking in there? Those surcharges are there to support "FATBOYS" $100.00 lunches. The only way to wake up LIPA and NYS is to not pay your bill for 2 months and watch them crumble. Then maybe they'll get someone in there compenant enough to run the co. The next bill you get, study it closely and you"ll see where I'm coming from.

As a LIPA meter reader we endure one of the most difficult jobs there are out there. We are put in to dangerous situations that even the police don't dare to go with out any type of protection. We work in all weather conditions and on an average day I read anywhere between 500 to 1000 meters. About 99.9% of us are out there doing the job for less pay than a NYC police officer makes, correctly. Yes we estimate when we can not get into your home because you aren't there or you refuse us. We estimate if your meter is blocked by debris and garbage or when you put a wall in front of it. We will estimate if you leave your pit bull running in the yard. And occasionally we will estimate you if we consider your home to be too unsafe to enter. But let me assure you our company does not like estimates. Actually our estimate rates are scrutinized when we seek a better position in the company. So please remember 1 bad apple does not spoil the whole bunch. Anyone reading this who's a NYPD cop will understand what we are going through right now because of one bad apple.
