Paying for fire dept. calls? One borough says yes.
It seems like we pay for everything these days, but what if you got a bill for calling the fire department? It's happening in one of our region's most popular tourist destinations, and it might just cost you the next time you visit.

What a joke, if this is the case then all aspects of public service should be permitted to bill for services.
Jim Thorpe FD will only enjoy this for so long as there is a bill in the process to restrict this. They will spend more in collection agency costs than they will recieve in actual funds in return. Its a silly idea, but when you're the self proclaimed best town in America, I guess they can get away with it. In a time when all these fire departments are whining proverty it makes no sense

Taxes have been growing - taking a bigger slice of pie out of each tax payers paycheck - every year for the last 50 years.
I don't mind paying my fair share. But, what were we supposed to be getting more of -- during these last 20 years??
Am I a bad person for wanting the right to choose where I spend most of my paycheck?
Tax increases are getting to the point of being a sick joke. Every taxpayer I know who owns a home, including me, is broke. What are we supposed to do? S*** out the cash?
Please just let my frikkin house burn down. I'll go bankrupt and feed off of the welfare system. When I get sick I'll go to the emergency room. I'm sick of this.

Dam tourists clog up the roads for hours, it is like they don't have leaves in there area. No extra revenue comes from their visit here the only ones making money are the businesses. In fact the Dem Majority commissioners took the parking lot in downtown off the Fire Dept. The local taxpayers pick up the tab for the fuel, equipment, training, etc. to rescue this city wannabe hikers. These volunteers give up time with their families on the weekend for these yahoos. Beside the billing companies get a percentage if they bring in money for the FD. No money, no pay. Good for Jim Thorpe Tax Payers, way to go!!

Oh, and by the way, just so everyone understands ...
Police and fire are heroes every time they leave their front door. They don't get paid nearly enough.
Why isn't some of all that tax revenue already getting to them? Aren't they already at the very top of the priority list?
Where is all that tax money being spent - if one of the most important things in life isn't getting enough cash -- already? Is money being flushed down the toilet?
At this point in history the debate should be about how much to reduce taxes. Seriously. I'm shocked at how they keep coming back year after year after year and saying, "We need a bigger chunk of your paychecks." Hey, here's a radical thought. How about smaller?

Unless they're the ones starting the fires.
