What is causing the ammunition shortage ?

The shortage is due to all the talks of banning certain types of weapons and gun control. When Washington starts talking this rhetoric ammo and guns fly off the shelves. I have noticed that even Wal-Mart is running low on ammo.

All this gun control talk has caused a massive surge in people buying firearms and ammunition. The government wants less guns out there but they don't realize that they're actually causing the amount of guns to almost double. After all of this talk of taking and banning guns dies back down citizens will start selling firearms they don't need, and the majority of them will not re register the gun in their name causing whatever plans the government has to backfire in their face.

Another reason why there is a shortage on ammo is:

The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirms that it is purchasing 174 thousand rounds of hollow point bullets to be delivered to 41 locations in major cities across the U.S.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has ordered 46,000 rounds of hollow point ammunition.

In March DHS ordered 750 million rounds of hollow point ammunition. It then turned around and ordered an additional 750 million rounds of miscellaneous bullets including some that are capable of penetrating walls.

Sources have further indicated that ammunition and firearms have been delivered to multiple agencies of the federal government, including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, and theInternal Revenue Service, among others.

OK to clear up some miss information about the mass purchasing of hollow point rounds by the SSA and other Federal departments is this.
When you are in law enforcement as there are all types of such departments in the government, you have to qualify once or in some departments two times a year, and you try and use the type of round you use while you are on the job.
Governments buy in bulk to keep cost down, and they use the rounds for both too qualify and to use on the streets.
Also when the departments that are listed in this above report bear in mind they all go to the same range to qualify which is mostly run by the AFT and if the person who is going to re-qualify goes they have to take their own rounds from their departments.

What misinformation you have cleared up? You appear to be justifying 'barry's' action of buying all these unnecessary ammo. The taxpayers should not have to buy ammo for someone else to target practice.

Your still a retard dumb ass if the people that keep you safe when you go to get you SSI check does not have a gun someone will take it from your old ass .

But that's right you don't like guns so I know what we'll do let's also take all the gun from the police they don't need them anymore as there are not people out there who just want to kill you right ?

Of course law enforcement officers need "guns", what would they do when confronted by one of you with one of those ugly assault rifles. But they should have to buy their own ammo to target practice. Even you have a right to own a firearm, but I question the need of having one that discharge 100 rounds in a matter of seconds. SSI check, eh? If someone showed up with a gun they wouldn't have to take the check, I would readily fork it over.

I am woman and I carry a gun. I carry it to protect myself and children. I know how to take it apart and clean it, load it and shoot it. I am not a felon nor a coward. I have earned the right to carry it with me. I am responsible with it. If I am in fear of my life or my children's life you can bet your a$$ I'm going to shoot. Just the way I was taught. 2 in the chest 1 in the head.

100 rounds in a matter of seconds? quite impossible with your average "assult rifle". They are semi-automatic, meaning one bullet for every pull of the trigger. A 30 round mag is fairly standard, you would have to pull the trigger 100 times and change the mag three times to get that 100 rounds downrange. Would take you a couple minutes at least, and that's if the other mags are already loaded and ready to go. Like another user said...get your facts right before you spout a bunch of crap.
You don't buy hollow point bullets for practice. They are more expensive than FMJ. You buy hollow points to kill. DHS purchased enough to wage an iraq type war for YEARS, with bullets that are outlawed by the Geneva Convention, so they can't be used anywhere but American soil. Also WAY more than they need for "practice". Think about that.

Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in as society where people that don't have a clue what they're talking about just kept their mouths shut. I'll admit it makes me cringe going to academy and seeing empty shelves, but I think its in the right hands for the most part and will be divided if needed, I know mine will be.

Gun are good, they make America a nice place to live. The company's that make ammo should work overtime to fill the shelves. Let's get going! Start making Ammo. GO Go GO. Also use gun control for public safety, try enforcing current laws.

to say that the government needs that much ammo for a future war is ignorant. They are intentionally controlling guns buy buying all the ammo with our money. Obama does not respect the constitution or American rights. He is about the most unAmerica president that I have ever seen. Call your any Republican you can in Washington and demand that they stop buying Ammo!!

It's the world envirnoment today that has people wound up about the future and being able to protect what's theirs! That is what is causing the run on ammo couple with a large demand of ammo bought by the government. Then you have the people buying and reselling while gouging people. This is going to show the manufacturers that people are willing to pay high prices for ammo so they will increase their prices along with it.

you people got off topic and never said why the feds were buying up all the ammo?is this year different to feds than last year for ammo use?if so why?its allways easy to blame the public for this and its true that the public is buying more ammo than usual but the feds issue of this isnt answered by the whitehouse?they with the help of the non reporting liberal main stream media keeps us in the dark about this!if the public is the only problem with ammo shortage then the feds have a real future problem on their hands dont they?maybe the feds are giving this ammo to those that they lost fast and furious weapons to?wew the public will never know the truth about any of this??
