The history of guns is a very short one if you if you put the worlds age up to it.
Guns were used as early as 1364 which is the first recorded use of them.
The first used guns that could shoot more then one round at a time was in 1860 and it was the Spencer repeating rifle.
Through time guns have been improved with each war we fight and battle we as humans come across, and as we evolve guns will be slowly phased out of use and a more dealy and life ending weapon will be used.
To out law guns at this time of human evolution is out of the question as we are still dealing with evil men and they do evil things, and how does one fight an evil person ?
Some say we should be able to talk an evil man from using a gun with that in mind go ask if that worked when a 20 year old man walked into a school after killing his mother and killed 20 kids.
One thing you don't seem to look at is that the guns he used were not his they were his mothers,(question here was why did she have them and for what reason ?).
Guns will always be used to level the field until humans learn to be happy with others, a gun will always be a needed weapon when countries fight to over through a government that kills the weak.
Case in point War of America for it's Independence from Britan,US Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam,First Desert War to kick out Saddam, and the War in Afghanistan after being attacked by members of the Taliban regime and then the second war in Iraq to over throw Saddam.
Yes guns will be with us until the end of our time, taking them away now would not be the best idea as then only the crooks will have them and then how will you defend your self?

(Reuters)- The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.

U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.

WHY?????? Why does the most "civilized" nation on the face of the earth have more killing weapons in the hands of private citizens than any other?

Because it's called the 2nd amendment, and it has keep this country from falling into a civil war, others major countries in the world have fallen because it's country men did not have gun to make sure that the government did not force them into service, which here in the US, we can stop that kind of government if it rises it's evil head, our fore fathers did that for us.

You read were other countries have had major fighting in their streets because people got tired of the way their government has keep them down, we here in the US have not had that done to us yet, yes yet Obama is working on taking the rights of the 2nd amendment and other right from us so that the government can put us under rules that take away our rights.

If we don't have guns then he can allow other countries to walk in and enforce the laws of the land, and the UN policies over the US.

Crazy maybe so, but you fools put this ass back into the white house, you sit back and watch this shooting will bring to bear the cause to take all guns from us, and then with that this government will send us into a civil war, like no other war we have seen.

You can judge this post as clueless, nuts, funny be that as it may, you keep being a sheep and watch what happens, dig your head in deep as there will be no were for you to hind.

I hope if THEY take anyones guns it is yours. Using the MENTALY DEFICIENT rule just on your previous statements would justify you losing your guns. From calling yourself crazy to civil war in 46 words or less all the while pointing out it is not your legal officially elected government. Nobody wants to judge what you write, although it does come off as disturbing and seems as if less than average writing skills are present.

we are by no means a civilized nation. guns are not the issue. lack of morals, civility, and respect for others is the issue. almost all of these cases involves someone with mental issues. we need better care for those with these type of conditions, we need better prison that are prisons, not mini vactations. we need better parenting. people need to not worry about materialistic inanimate objects such as the newest cell phone or video game. people need to believe in a God. religion in not just about faith, it teaches us consequences for bad behavior, it teaches and guides us how to live and love, it teaches the foundations of how to act. what happend to pride and faith. this country needs a lesson in civility not gun control. crazies, druggies and hoods use weapons to harm, how about we round them up and put them away. we live in a country where individuals go to jail for minor offenses while the child molestors, rapest and killers go free. make our prisons like those in third world countries and we will fix many of our problems. teach ethics in school. we are by no means a civilized country, we have high divorce rate, highest drop out rate, highest unemployment, welfare, unwed mothers, single parents, high crime, people are hooked on prescription drugs, lowest learning in education, lack of drive, lack of respect, road rage, disrespectful, liars, cheaters, swindlers, dishonest.....we need to turn it around and go back about 40 years. gun control will not fix our issues.

The second amendment says you are allowed to have guns. It doesn't say that every citizen MUST have a gun.

It's kept us from falling into a Civil War? Then what was that disagreement between the North and the South between 1860 and 1865? A schoolyard fight?

We need guns to keep our country from forcing us into service? Ever hear of the Selective Service Act? Ever hear of the draft during wartime? That's the country forcing its citizens into service, and all the guns in the world can't stop that.

And isn't it sorta hypocritical for you to say that your country, through the 2nd amendment, gives you the right to own a gun, but it shouldn't be able to force you into service? You want your country to give you rights, but it shouldn't be allowed to ask for your service in return?

Obama -- nor any other President -- can take away any of your rights bestowed in the Bill of Rights. He can't take your rights away, and neither can anybody else. So your anti-Obama BS is just that -- BS.

And if another country tries to walk in and take us over, it will be the military -- not private citizens with handguns and .22's --who stops it.

It's real simple....because we have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. These arms are intended to protect ourselves against our own government. It evens the playing field more or less. I agree with the first post. Most people that own guns are law abiding citizens. we purchase these weapons for recreational use i.e. hunting, sport shooting and if need be defense mechanisms. I do not leave the house without a gun on my person and a back up in the vehicle. You can't trust anyone these days. You begin taking guns out of the hands of people with good intentions, can't protect ourselves against the true criminals using guns off the streets. Last time I checked, a gun just doesn't crawl it's way out of a house and walk itself into a business, work place, schools, etc and start shooting by itself. These weapons are used in a negative manner by a physco with mission, motivation and intent to do harm and terrorize. Even it there was a gun ban, if these individuals wanted to carry out a plan they will find a way. Think about it.

I'm sick of people blaming video games and hollywood. If you are going to blame those things then blame the parents that allow their "children" to watch or play those things. Maybe it's bad parenting. These are not the issues. I have been watching violent movies and playing first person shooter games for years. This doesn't make me want to go shoot up a business or school. RIDICULOUS.

First, you have my sympathy for being so paranoid that you're afraid to leave home without a gun. Sounds like a real mental health issue to me.

Second, where do you people get the idea that your right to bear arms is to protect yourself from your own government? How ironic that you want the government to give you the right to own a weapon to use against that same government! Unbelievable.

Third, no one is disputing that you have the right to own a gun. The Supreme Court agrees with the Founding Fathers on that, and NO ONE is trying to take your guns away from you. We're saying that it's time to put some regulations on that right.

Now, before you get your panties in a wad, let me remind you that ALL the rights given in the First Amendment have some rules and regulations. You have the right to free speech, but you cannot say "bomb" or "hijack" in an airport. You cannot holler "Fire" in a crowded room. You cannot use speech to incite a riot. There are certain words you cannot use on television/radio. And you cannot make threats against the President. The right to a Free Press has rules, too. The press cannot print anything that harms national security. You have the Right to Assemble, but even then, you must get a permit. You have the right to practice your own religion, but not if that religion includes human sacrifice.

Why should the Right to Bear Arms be any different?

It does not matter if they outlawed every gun in America, criminals will still have them. Drugs have been outlawed for many years, yet you can get it anywhere. Illegal to drink and drive, people do it every day. It would only hurt the honest person. It would be fine to limit high capacity magazines, but still a criminal will have it. They have fully auto which is illegal to own. I am for banning body armor. Law enforcement should be the only ones allowed to possess body armor
