Folks, this afternoon I opened topix and immediately got hit with the FBI Moneypak virus. Be advised, you should have some active on-access scanner enabled and working or you could be removing it through safe mode.

How do you know it was from topix?

Because I opened topix and it immediately hit. Also, I checked logs. I have had to remove it before so I was familiar with it. It wasnt actually topix, it was an ad that randomized on Topix. It is a widespread, low quality .exe that injects through malformed html.

looks like you were the only one without an updated virus scan subscription

You can read correct? Then go back and read this thread. I was pretty clear that I checked the logs and that "it hit" my virus scanner. I have removed it from computers previously, that is why I was familiar with the signature. If this was your attempt at a cheap shot....You missed.

Moneypak should be shut down until they stop facilitating this scam! By processing criminal transactions they are violating federal law!

The ads or what I hate about topix. They try to pop open on their own and cover up part of the working screen.

My anti-virus and firewall stop a lot of stuff, but I will do more scans. Sorry you had the issue. Is there any thing you can set on this page that stops random pop-up advertisements? I stop and close them immediately. It's a pain.
