<quoted text> thank you mr rogers....you seem to understand what im saying...yes, there are alot of children, born into this way of life, and dont have a clue how to get out.... maybe along with the help of food stamps, they should be given a time frame to get their ged and then maybe they can get training for a better job with the chance for advancement and better pay....but yes, make getting and education part of the foodstamp deal.....cant this be done?
Where do I get an application for one of those jobs you guys are talking about. Where are the jobs for those of us with GED's.

Go ask Barry for one, I bet he has a shovel for you to dig a ditch or better yet maybe you can pick some cotton to save fuel cost for the farmers, keep it green and all.

Out of all the Green job old Barry backed with tax payer money all have gone out of Business so then again asking Barry for a job your just SOL.

The Military is somewhat of on the job traning but you get a pay check. I guess prision is similar too, you can get some eduction and or training, cant you? Or like you said in another post you can keep selling your food stamps for cash. Not sure but I think that is against the law maybe someone on hear can better inform you about that.

You not real religious. You are worst than 'doubting Thomas'. Have some Faith. Just a little, just one iota, just the size of a mustard seed, you should know what that is. Small.

I am not talking to you...I am mad. One of my friends wanted to ask a social worker a question and you wouldn't answer. Don't call my name anymore!!!!!

I don't know much about the military. I was classified 'unfit'. They was taking 'followers'. They didn't want noone who would question the wisdom of going 10 thousand miles to fight in some rice patties. However, I do know a few facts about the military. I have lived roughly 8 miles from a military base so I know a little bit. Now as to prison, I am a expert. I don't have to guess and take the chance of being wrong. I know.

I don't exactly follow your point, about the military ojt but they get a paycheck, but in prison you get education and maybe training. You are missing the point, in prison you get ojt AND a paycheck, plus education and training. And the chances of PDST and Brain Injury is a helluva less like it. The chances of you getting your legs blowed off going to the cotton fields simply don't exist. I went to prison because how dumb I was on the streets. I was on the streets when I missed up. Prison changed me. It did a good job. So don't place no ugly mark on prison, its needed, and in some cases it produces some very straighforward fellows. I am one. Don't you guess, ok. If you want to learn something, ask me. If I don't know I'll tell you I don't know. But when I tell you, look it up, I'm telling you some good sh**.

I think that a much better way to go is to have a really good educational system in place. It is cheaper to educate our children than send them to prison. What would work is if every parent had to make sure their kid went to school, stayed in school and finished school.
As far as the food stamp cycle being broken-yes it can be done and has been done all over this country, but it takes something inside that child or person to want to do better. If we could have the support of the movie industry and tv and have them put it out there that being honest and working a day's honest work is what will make you happy and feel good about yourself, then and only then can this cycle be broken. Hope and then some old fashion work will perform miracles.

Old fashion hard work builds self esteem and a sense of identity. We need hard work to be mandatory in exchange for public assistance if possible. Putting people on disability because they are fat and giving then food stamps is like feeding a hog pork chops because it's a pig.

well having the ged is a start...from there, classes are offered in nursing, business, and many other fields....all im saying is some of these young people need someone to help them find a way off public assistance...with only minimum wage jobs available, and many with children to support, food stamps are the only way they can survive...

I understand exactly what all of you are saying. I get it. Under no circumstance am I defending entitlement programs, and neither am I naive enough to think everyone getting the assistance are capable of working. I know some getting assistance that if Louis had anything to do with it, they wouldn't get s***. Not a copper penny worth. Some people are not physically able to work, so why should work be a requirement. And if you have a mimimum wage job and 2 kids you still need some stamps and a check. Or you can't make it. This ole dirty water is 100 a month.

Can you picture me going to nursing school at 61. LOL LOL I can be the smartest in class, but who going to hire me as the nurse, and a pretty blonde applied for the same job? Who would you hire, a black half bald headed man 61 years of age, or a young gorgeous lady 23 years old. I knew it. Discrimination!!

But wouldn't you suggest I consider something other than nursing? Maybe capentry, body and fender, mechanic, anything but nursing. Now in my younger days I might could have gotten by as a nurse, I looked a lots better then.

Thanks for the donation. If the contribution was made out of the goodness of your heart you will be blessed. But if you was grandstanding so you could get on topix and brag about giving half of your check, something we can not verify, then you just might miss your blessings. I don't think many will starve to death because you refused to give 'one single can of your food.' We appreciate all you have given, thanks very much.
