Could you please explain how this is a speed trap? The speed limit is 55 on 171 from about ERA/Veronas all the way to Pickering I believe. It does not change without notice and plenty of room to slow to the speed limit prior to passing the sign.
I have personally found that if I remove cruise or stop all acceleration at the sign notifying you of a changing speed limit, my vehicle almost always slows to the speed limit (or below) as it is posted when it changes. Try it sometime. As soon as you pass the sign that says the speed limit changes, stop acceleration and take note of how fast you are going when you pass the next sign.

For me, a speed trap is one where the speed limit changes up and down, is not clearly marked, or is purposely blocked from clear view. I have fell victim to this game, but I havent seen it here locally. In fact, I find the LEO in this area to be pretty forgiving with the exeption of NL and the LSP on 28. Anyone who has lived in this area any amount of time has heard that NL will pull you over for less that 5 mph over the speed limit. If that isnt fair warning, as well as the clearly posted signs, I am not sure what you expect. On the other hand, I bet you would also gripe if someone was flying through your neighborhood and no one was there to ticket them for it. If you fly through my neighborhood, I will call and ask for courtesy patrol due to high speed. In the end, it just doesnt make sense to drive 10 over to arrive at the stop light faster or to get to your location 30 seconds quicker. late is late and you wont make it up by putting the general public at risk.

Do I speed? I am guilty of it from time to time, but never more than 4 mph over, and that is only on the interstate where other traffic is running me over. If I get a ticket for it, I will pay because I deserve it. Think of it this way, are there varying degrees of burglary or rape, homicide? Nope. If you do the crime, you pay the fine!

Law enforcement for the purpose of REVENUE is not true law enforcement!

Revenue is the purpose for all these small town "police departments." At a local town meeting awhile back it was shown that my local police department generates 150k a year on traffic tickets. If they actually wrote tickets to all the people that live in the town for infractions there would be 300k generated but he has to get votes from somewhere.
Write a speeding ticket-top of list.
Answer a call for assistance-low to non-existant.
Think about it.

Degrees of a crime are variable. I could have commited first degree murder but to make a conviction stick the prosecutor will fish around and find that maybe manslaughter is all he/she can get to stick and go with it So yes there are varying degrees of. I would take 8 years over life anyday.

I knew people would complain sooner or later about this. God forbid drivers go the FREAKING speed limit and not haul @$$ through this part of 171 going 65...If I were a state trooper I ride this stretch & especially the Pickering School zone area and would hand out speeding tickets like cheap Halloween candy...Easy money.

But you are not a state trooper therefore you will not be handing out speeding tickets.

Also what alot of people dont understand is that these small towns that write tickets for 9 mph and under, the state gets that money because this keeps speedtraps from being so bad all over the state. When the towns are losing that revenue it makes them use speeds of 9 and under as a probable cause to stop you for other infractions such as DUI or driving under suspension etc and they make revenue off of you that way. Thats why alot of times they stop you for 6 over and run you and be sure all your ducks are in a row an then cut you loose. Thats MOST of the time. You be a d!ck and you will get one for 6 over just because you were a d!ck and you rightly earned it twice. Once for speeding and twice for being said penis.
I guess to make a long story short. Drive like you have a head on your shoulders worth more than just seperating your ears from each other.

When over 50% of the towns revenue is from traffic fines and court cost in the kangaroo court of Freddy Boswell then they write tickets like its going out of style. I have had former officers tell me that the auditors told the police dept in an open meeting that they were not writing enough tickets! They all have a quota to write( you know the unwritten rule)

Attrap would indicate that the cops are not in plain sight of the people on the the roadway. Are you saying that some how the cops just fall out of the sky and get you. Or you don't know what a speed limit sign is and how that helps everyone. I have a (rat) trap at home, are you going to stick your toe in it. Yea, more than likley you will. Slow down dumb A. Traps are not needed for stupid people, your just easy to see.

So let me get this right. The auditors are complaining that they are NOT writing enough tickets. So that means to me that it is not a speed trap because they are Not writing tickets. I would personally start worrying about it being a speed trap when the auditors stand up in a meeting and say "good job writig those tickets" Then you have a problem. get my drift?

There are no speed traps anywhere unless they purposely cover a speeding sign up with a tree or bush. Then if I were you, I take a pic with my camera or phone and present it to the judge. Dont argue just take the ticket and then represent your case. You do the speed limit, you dont get caught. How easy is that?

So you would rather live in a town with no law? Or no police? I don't understand. Do you have that much faith in humanity, you think there is no bad people in the world, that no harm will ever befall you? Or that you will never have an emergency where you would need to call for help? Ok. Well good for you. Police are human, there are some bad ones, but I would rather live in a community where I know the police by name then in Chicago or New York. Where the police can take forever to respond to a call or may not come at all. Nope, not for me and mine. Give me small town politics, nosy neighbors and my neighborhood police. Atleast I know who to call to complain too. lol
