We need a place for our local youth , it can bring outside income in many ways also , if we could get a skatepark built that was cement and really good , the scene for extreme sports would really thrive especially with the extra outside source of soldiers that keep coming from other places that have already made a big extreme sport community , skate shops could open and with the mass media covering events like the x-games everyone even those that don't actually participate would want to see events,Demo's,pro tours, video premiers, local teams , and so on an so forth , but theirs nothing and it can only help, keeps kids from riding their bikes or skateboards or scooters or whatever in the streets , CAN ANYONE HELP?

They did that on post but took it down due to injuries and insurance.

Now it's a put-put and gocart track.

As far as the city doing it they would not know how to manage it and it would cost too much for the city to insure it.

Yes they are , and if a fool gets hurt you think that will stop that fool from suing the park anyway ?

They may not win the case but it will still cost the city money for lawyer fees and such.

You are 100% correct, this day and age everyone sues for anything trying to make that easy dollar, without realizing/caring that they hurt the future of things such as this due to liability issues.

Now they can donate a pice of land and via private money you could say skate at your own risk while supervised then maybe that would work.

It worked in New Orleans a few months ago but who around here would give money to a skate park their too greedy when it come to making a non- profit venue for kids around here.

If the land was donated , I could surely get a good of money raised up a few different ways myself , it's not impossible

Actually, it's an idea that I and some other local business and community leaderds have talked about before. The challenges are figuring out where to locate it, how to afford the construction and what sort of legalities would have to be covered.

I agree with you that we need some things for our 'tween crowd (ages 12-15) to do. I think something like this would go a long way toward curtailing juvenille crime and giving our kids a good way to have fun.

What are your other ideas to give our kids something good to do? Lets get a good discussion going here.

I'm sure there are many folks who would love to have me sit down and be quiet, but those who know me also know that if it doesn't ethically conflict with my appointed duties, I will always speak out for what I think is right.

There's nothing controversial about me speaking out in support of a skate park and it's a good idea so I wanted to voice my support.

How about a local gocart track with putt putt and batting cages. I know they have a gocart track on post but we also need one in Leesville for the local kids. You are correct if you provide sonething for the kids to do you might just keep them from getting into trouble. Its a crying shame that kids ask to go to Walmart just so they have something to do.

A good place to put would be the open area in front of Walmart they could extend it too the parking lot of the theater so as to have multi parking for all.

As far as the flooding that was there in the past all they would have to do would be back fill and also in close the canal which would stop any flooding .

You would be able to place all three types of entrainment you would have better accesses, then putting it in the middle if town also you would then have a local entertainment area that could be over watched by the PD also Walmart would be able to make even more money then they do now .

Just a thought

My uncle is from TX and he tried to open a skateboard park here. He was BIG time shot down. City said too big of a liability, they wd have to have cop on premises at all times and it cost too much money!
