The U.S. Forest Service has ruled that hunting deer with dogs will be prohibited in the Kisatchie National Forest (KNF), effective with the 2012-2013 hunting season. The decision is a federal action and overrules the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission, which previously approved deer season dates for the KNF that included nine days in December 2012 for deer hunting with dogs.

Thank God!! Now maybe us real hunters can enjoy our national forest!

Let me clue all topic readers in on what "us real hunters" are; You are the folks that think the KNF is for your use only and cannot be used by anyone that does not think the way you do. Like I have said before, I have listened to you so called “hunters" whine and cry about deer hunting with dogs. You cry because a few hunters want to use the Kisatchie Forrest for a few days, to hunt the way they want to hunt, and not the way you want them to hunt. Now listen up, I know most of you so called “Kisatchie Hunters” and you have been hunting/trapping in the Kisatchie Forrest for years. Let me point out a few things to you before you get all “high and mighty.” For years you have hunted/trapped/fished, etc., during hunting season and out of hunting season. You have taken deer, quail, dove, fish, turkey and wild hogs both legally and Illegal. You have hunted over illegal food plots and have set illegal traps. You have broken every hunting regulation on the books. Most of you so called “Kisatchie Hunters” are a disgrace to the real/legal sportsman who follows the hunting laws. RISE UP, I only have one word for you "Clueless."

The problem I have is, dog hunters have no respect for the private land owners and most importantly the deer. Im sure you are gonna say you didnt kill any doe during the dog season and im gonaa say you are a liar. The state and feds have tried to work with you people for a while now and yet you all still refuse to abide by the rules and laws. why? I see children out learning from their parents that this is the way to hunt, killing doe and showing your kids how to hide it....LOL...real great sportsman. If you like to run hounds thats fine with me, just do it on your own private property. But anyway its finally over, yall lost the good fight....LOL....and its not the "Kisatchie Hunters" that caused this. When Game wardens write over 200 tickets is 9 days for everything you can imagine....doe kills, speed, litter ect.....that should speak for itself. So Sir you are a disgrace to our hunting tradition!

I agree with you on that statement. I have even went hunting with a few friends a few times to run dogs. And seriously, I stay nervous the whole time about seeing a game warden, even though I'm not doing anything wrong, just riding in the passenger seat. But everyone else drives recklessly, and goes by the statement "if its brown its down" and. "Ground check'em boys". They drink beer all day that's not safe. The more I comment on it the more I realize how nervous I really was with them. But it's not just them, it's everyone we would see.

Yes it's fast paced and fun, but I think it should remain on private land. Glad it passed. At least now I won't have to pick up beer cans from the trail to my stand in December.

Not every dog hunter does that. Every dog hunter shouldn't be punished over someone's ignorance. Me and my family dog hunt and I can tell you, we respect private property and we do it legally.

It's the land owners who think they own kisatchi that should take the blame. I would be a shame of myself for talking about dog hunters when most of you have dog hunted before and got to old and crabby to hunt anymore and now you want to sit back and critisise it's funny to me you all have tree stands , Box stands and feeders all over your property and you kill deer all year round you are the outlaws and a disgrace to Louisiana great outdoors leave dog hunters alone for two measly weeks

Why you need a dog to find and run a deer? Because you don't know how to truly HUNT. Not to mention how bad you treat your dog when your not hunting.

I don't hunt KNF but would like to comment in regards to dog hunting. If it were up to me it would be illegal statewide. Where I used to hunt with my 12 and 13 year old boys is 85 acres of hardwood private property that is almost completely landlocked by a swamp in area 9. That said as if it isn't already hard enough to bag a deer in that area we have to compete with the constant trespassing of people running dogs. Apparently property lines only exist for those of us who choose to still hunt. It's ridiculous when you put posted signs every 30 feet around 85 acres and people still run those dogs thru. No moral compass and absolutely no respect for fellow hunters. What really did me in was when I was in the woods with my boys and shots began to ricochet near us from a group of trespassers running dogs straight towards us on private property. I even yelled out for identification and the shots continued. Well, obviously we didn't see any deer that day but I did bag two dogs. I have zero tolerance for dog hunters because I have yet to find equal and shared respect from them in the woods. If your to stupid to know where you should and shouldn't be then you should stay home. The outdoors and hunting is meant to be special and fun but with trash like that roaming around it becomes unnecessarily dangerous. I don't hunt near home because of people like that. It makes me sick

You want dogs that can read posted signs, am I right?

You like shooting another man's dogs, am I right?

I am curious if you shoot over bait? Traditional still hunting does not involve bait, by the way.
