This past Monday, my husband was riding his bicycle to work on Entrance Rd and was hit by a car/truck. It happened just past the new KFC by the storage place at approximately 6:05am. Please, if you were on Entrance Rd at that time and saw anything contact the Ft Polk MPs or LA State Police Troop E. My husband has multiple fractures of his pelvis, broken rib, 2 fractures of the left fibula, fractured L1 vertebra and numerous bruises and scrapes. He also had to have surgery on his left ankle to repair the joint that was torn in the accident. His dentures were even knocked out of his mouth and broken into pieces. Only a small piece of them was found. My husband is 60 years old and as we have no car, rode his bicycle to work at McDonald's. PLEASE if you know anything, if you saw anything, call the MPs or the State Police. He was wearing reflective wear front and back, wore a helmet, and had a light on the front and rear of his bike. There is no reason he couldn't have been seen, only someone not paying attention.

I will be talking with the neurosurgeon as well as the trauma surgeon this Monday. The pelvis fractures are the worst and are of the most concern. His pelvis was broken front, back, and both sides. Any prayers you wish to send up, please do. Thank you for any prayers and any information you might have.

My prayers are with you and your husband. It infuriates me that someone could so callously do something like that and just leave. If you make a mistake own up to it as a person. I wish I did know what had happened because I would be the first to tell. I wish you well that someone has the guts to speak up. Keep the faith...

Thank you both. I hope and pray someone saw something and will contact the authorities. It's not fair that he's laying in a hospital bed in excrutiating pain while this person is out enjoying his/her life. At a time when we should be enjoying our granddaughter, we're left to try and put his body back together. Not fair at all. Again, thanks to you both. Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Prayers are with you for a speedy recovering and to get as much information as possible on this. I am so sorry to hear that the injuries are so severe.(and that no one has come forward!)

Have they checked surrounding businesses security cameras? They might have been angled that direction? I am sure they thought of that already but its an idea.

Have you talked to any of the managers at wal mart? My girlfriend works there and I'll see if she can get someone to put notices up or something. That's just wrong! That person deserves life without parole!

Checking the video cameras has been one of the things mentioned. I'm not sure if subpoenas are required, but, that is one things that will happen. A mirror from a vehicle was found, but only a mirror. I'm not sure if they have my husband's bicycle or not, but they might be able to also get paint transfer. My sisters have started contacted media, KLAX and LC American Press. I pray that someone somewhere will remember something.
My husband will have pelvis surgery on Wednesday, he has 5 breaks. At this point, because he has a back brace as well, the trauma surgeon has to carefully decide how to operate. The brace can cause some issues after surgery. He and the neurosurgeon have to talk and work together because of the back injury and the pelvis fractures. Please just keep the prayers going that they can figure out the best way to do the surgery. Thanks you all so much. It is greatly appreciated. Even if all you do is say a prayer. Prayers work, and God still does miracles.

Hadn't thought of doing that. I have a friend who works at Walmart and will check with her and see what can be done. What a wonderful idea. My mind is so 'fried' right now, it's difficult to think about what I need to accomplish. For now, I'm focused on getting my husband's pelvis fixed so that he can start the healing/recovery process. Thank you again for the idea, I will check into that!

Too bad they couldn't get an exact time & location on all cell numbers...they may have been texting when they hit him. I agree with Darnell. Hoping someone will spill their guts for the other one to let it be known. My prayers are with him and your family.

I hope your 'ears' pick up something! My husband is remembering some things, not the actual hit, but some other details. Hopefully, someone will step forward.

Thanks for the prayers everyone. My husband had the pelvis surgery yesterday. The surgery went well, now the recovery starts. He will be non-weight bearing for 3 months - that will drive him crazy, but he is willing to do what it takes to get back on his feet. As am I. At this point, it's one minute at a time, one small step at a time. He is in good spirits, hurting, but in good spirits. He is stubborn and determined, so he is insistent he will recover fast! The next challenge is making sure he doesn't overdo it! Again, thanks for your prayers.

My husband is still in good spirits, but, the pain is great. He is remembering a bit more, not the actual hit, but a few things. An account has been set up for him at Vernon Bank. The main thing is for everyone to keep the prayers going for him. Thanks everyone.

My husband may be released the middle of the week to come home. Since he will be non-weight bearing for 3 months, rehab is pretty much useless at this time. My son-in-law & a buddy of his are building a wheelchair ramp today. They are both MPs at Ft Polk. Still have to contact the correct people about remodeling the bathroom. I think there are permits, etc involved in this, not sure. Also have to start the process of getting the medical equipment he'll need. The social workers at Rapides is an angel & have been extremely helpful with Medicaid paperwork, etc. And, for all the prayers & love extended our way - THANK YOU! With all that is 'uncertain' about Leesville, the people are kind, loving and helpful. Thanks again, and please continue your prayers and support.

Yes, thank you God. I'm also terrified at the thought of being responsible for moving him around with all his injuries. But, God is with me & will help me do things the proper way. Also, I'm pretty sure a home health agency will be involved as well. The main worry is his stubbornness & keeping him OFF his legs for 3 months! Sooooo, if any of ya'll are driving down Jeane Chapel Rd & hear a woman screaming/yelling 'You can't do that yet!'- yep, that would be me! Still don't know what day he'll be home, but I still have some cleaning, putting plastic on windows, etc. to accomplish. Continued prayers are requested please. BIG HUGS to everyone!

Hubby will probably be coming home tomorrow, providing I can get the medical equipment here that he needs. The hospital social worker is trying to find the lowest rental prices until he is approved for Medicaid. A benefit fund has been set up at Vernon Bank, but, as of yesterday, no deposits have been made. God has been amazing thus far at providing for our needs, so, I'm gonna leave that in His hands as well.
Even though there are lots of negative feelings about LDL, they have indicated they will be getting with me soon to do a story on all that's happened. Wish us luck with that. Thanks.

My husband got to come home this past Wednesday, Dec 8th, my birthday. So my birthday and Christmas present is home. We have a very long road ahead of us, please continue your prayers. We are both learning how to do things like changing the bed, getting the bed pan under him in time, helping him to sit up a little more each day, controlling his pain, and keeping him moving so he won't develop any bedsores. We've had a couple rough spots, but, we are learning and have actually had a couple of laughs about some things. Still looking for any information anyone might have.
I have a great deal of information to get together for disability, medicaid, as well as the Victim's Assistance program. He qualifies for that because hit and run is a crime. Prayers that I can get all this info together in a timely manner.
The benefit fund has been set up at Vernon Bank, under 'Melissa Twigg for the benefit of Robert Huie'. If you wish, you can donate, but be assured, prayers are greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks everyone.
