All of us grieve for the people that have lost their lives (by any method of murder) to evil people. I have four children at home and get both angry and sad when I think of the children killed in Connecticut. I am also still very angry and sad when I see the stories on 9-11-01 when the towers fell and when I see the photo of the crying firefighter carrying the dead child out of the ruins of the blasted federal building in Oklahoma City.
There are evil people in our society. Whether or not they have semi auto guns is irrelevant. Everybody needs to recognize this. Regardless of whether these bad people use guns, ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel, box cutters, or whatever, they will find some tool to perform the evil that they want to do. Infringing on the rights of the law-abiding owners of guns, box cutters, and/or fertilizer & diesel fuel will not fix the problem.
In the case of the recent shootings, I fully believe that a single armed and trained security guard or off-duty police officer at any of these places where these horrible massacres took place would have either stopped the incident from happening or given enough time to both evacuate the premises and have a prompt response by area police. Armed, trained air marshals and TSA officials have been very effective since 9-11 and the same would hold true in our schools. Iíll bet the violent crime rate is far lower at stores with armed security guards or moonlighting police officers stationed therein than those without.

Well said, warrants serious consideration. As in the airplanes, lets ban the weapon and then place the guard there. We banned the box cutters and then placed the air marshals on the planes. Right? I thought it would be feasible to some how install some type of STEEL doors to each class room that could be lock when a nut enter the building by remote control. I am no engineer but I am exploring the possibility of doing something along that line. Just like they did with the cockpit doors. Maybe you and I can patent the doors.

That's not the point. Box cutters are not banned. They are banned from planes. Fertilizer and diesel are not banned. You are banned from making a bomb with them. Guns are not banned, they are banned from schools, hospitals, courthouses, etc.
Why is it the massacres keep happening where there is a gun-free zone? They know they are the only one with a gun!!!
The doors are very, very easy. They are already used in school, hospitals. Also used as fire doors. It's just a solenoid, and a relay system.
My wife worked at a High School in Colorado. They had periodic drills to practice for "Active shooter". They had doors that would lock from one side and isolate corridors for defensible spaces. Students were locked in to classrooms. Staff would sweep for loose students and lock them into safe places.

Damn,so simple yet so smart. People like you two need to send a flare up to to the White House. Thinking in the box will protect the box (schools),unlike the non-thinking or over thinking out side the box.
