There is alot more to this election then the firefighters pension. 4 firefighters will be layed off and no overtime is available. This is not a good senario for the citizens at Leesburg. Even though the citizens of Leesburg are being told that there will be no change in the quality of service. This is NOT true. There is already at least one call at a place in Leesburg on Dixie Ave. with a cardiac arrest. Station one engine was already on a call. Because of lack of staffing and no overtime, Tower 61 was not in service. The closest LFD unit responded from the airport station! This was a cardiac arrest they responded on. How would you feel if this was a member of your family? Suppose you were the city manager or a city commissioner that approved this. How would you explain this to your family.

So how would you people of Florida like to see Fort Pickett near Blackstone, VA become an outlying landing field for the U.S. Navy jets stationed at Fentress Field in Chesapeake, VA and Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA!?

Why should the taxpayers fund pensions for firemen who retire in their late 30's or early 40's. The government is making government employees millionaires if you take the present value of their future benefits including health care. Google "immediate annity". And see how much after tax money you would need to buy a "pension" and it would not increase with inflation like most government pensions.

You should come down here in The Villages and see the high priced fire service we contend with. More captains, lieutenants, assistant and deputy chiefs than most cities. Go Figure.
