“Sorry, that was a false report”

John Roy Young understood the dangers of working in Iraq, family members say, but he went anyway to serve his country.

But on Nov. 16, 2006, Young and four other civilian employees of Crescent Security Group Inc. were ambushed and taken hostage while escorting a supply convoy. The captors released a video of the men a month later.

Young's family hoped the Army veteran and Lee's Summit native remained alive. But last weekend, the FBI said the remains of Young and another missing man had been found. Read more

I worked with John in the Mideast and not a day goes by I don't think about him. I met John well before CSG and I still mourn him now. We had many serious conversations and lots of laughs. I hope one day all citizens will be recognized for the sacrifices and contributions we've made and continue to make in Iraq/Afghanistan. But until then I'll continue to tell your story as I knew you, I told my son about you when he seen my tatt and asked who you were.... I told him you are my friend and I'll never forget you. Rest in Paradise brother.
