Lee's Summit man gets prison for $573,000 fraud
A 48-year-old Lees Summit man was sentenced today to 18 months in federal prison for a mail fraud scheme that involved stealing $573,000 worth of computer equipment from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.Gragg R. Vaill, a contract employee, also was ordered to pay $400,000 in restitution.

While I realize your article was merely an edited cut and paste from the US Attorney's office press release, I would hope that you would at least verify the facts before posting it...
Simply this, this guy plead guilty to mail fraud and money laundering, not theft (and was never charged with theft).
Then for added benefit, it should be noted that the dollar amount involved is still (even after conviction) a matter of dispute. His defense found that the items in question could have been purchased through a GSA approved vendor for less than half of what of what the government claimed they were worth...
If the government persists in its claim that the items were worth that amount, perhaps someone should investigate who was getting all that extra money (the difference between the amount claimed by the government and what his defense team found through its own research)!
Illegal acts by anyone should not be condoned, but we should make sure we have all the information and that it has been verified.
