Dead dogs keep showing up in cemetery

Authorities are investigating the discovery of at least dead dogs -- some obviously mutilated or even decapitated -- in a rural Jackson County cemetery.

Caretakers at Floral Hills Cemetery have called the Jackson County Sheriff's Office several times over the past six months to report that the corpses had been found on the property, the sheriff's office announced today.

Each time deputies responded, they found that the dead dogs had been left in different areas of the cemetery, which is in the 25200 block of east U.S. 50, east of Lee's Summit, according to Sgt. Ronda Montgomery. Read more

The thinking behind a person that would harm or kill any animal is unreal. We always had a pet growing up. The three dogs we had as children and when we grew up were part of our family. Other than the poodle that was stolen out of our back yard, they lived a long and happy life until they grew old and passed away.

Our pets are not our possesions, like your lawn mower or out door furniture. They are your family. They should not be left out alone. Let them go out and do thier business but bring them back in. There are too many people who don't have the love of animals as we have. When your dog remains out doors and barks to come in or barks because he is cold or too hot, you disturb neighbors who become very angry when the barking is late at night or just continues. The lady next door has a screened in back porch. She sits out and reads, sews or whatever. She has called Animal Control on us many times because of the barking.

When I let Tandie out and don't bring her in soon enough for her, she has thrown water at my dog, blew a whistle at her which scared her. She is allowing her two sons to react toward my dog in a negative way that I think teaches young people that it's okay to harass an animal. We as pet owners have to be a little more responsible when it comes to our beloved pets. There are those who really do not like dogs or cats. And I guess leaving our pets alone is too much to ask for.

I now sit outside with Tandie. What ever the weather is. And bring her back inside the house.
