That is a short list of friends.

Using your rational, then your list of enemies becomes quite long.

Of all the departments that were asked to participate, only four showed up.

Pretty sad.

Then you accuse the rest of being cowards?

My guess is the other departments preferred to sit on the sidelines and watch from a distance.

Especially if there are problems that EVERYONE is aware of and don't want to be associated with.

Do you think that is what happened?

I do.

Picking fights does not help your cause.

Why no postings? Because everybody went nuts with the false accusations, sarcasm, criticism, exaggerations, bitterness, and picking fights that weren't even there to pick! If they didn't know the facts, they made them up. They made up stories from "facts" that people gave. Like they say - been there, done that - if you weren't there - or you only hear bits and pieces and rumors - don't add fuel to the fire (pun intended) by making things up. It's in the Courts - let them decide whether the department should continue to exist. Isn't closing the department a little harsh for our Town residents? Fix it - don't throw it away! The "message board" has lost it's usefulness and purpose, just like the Commissioners have! Those of you who don't live in the town - my comment is - The fire department IS trained! Records prove it. The Commissioners just dont want to believe it or recogignize it for their own nonsensical, stubborn reasons. My question is - wouldn't you rather have a "neighborhood" (recognizing the fact that we are a mostly rural area) fire protection from Basic EMS or rapid fire response than extended response time - up to 10 - 15 or 20 minutes. And no offense to the neighboring deprtments - it's a logistics question. Wait until winter and the roads are slippery and snowy. Response time from neighbors should then really be good!! Like 20 minutes or 1/2 hour to the northern most reaches or center of the town. The bottom line is that the Commissioners did not do their homework with their decision to close the Department. As for me and my house?- I would rather have my own local firefighters who I know and trust - show up at my doorstep should I need them again! Thank you very much! And they just did an exemplary job of fire prevention training for Stokes School this week! It was their fire prevention training program that saved my son's life many years ago! They have done it (the fire prevention training) for many years!

Three cheers to the LCVFD!!! Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

There's no argument here. Closing the department crossed the line.

But lets not forget, Pam Mandryk had a big hand in it by pushing the issue and making it happen.

Ken Baker had a big hand in it by failing to respond to the 18 issues put before him. Many that could have been very easily taken care of.

The supporters had a big hand in it when they acted like children with treats and verbal assaults against the commissioners.

Yep, everyone is at fault here. Instead of acting like adults and coming to a compromise, everyone dug in their heels and look what happened. Give and take folks. Thats all it would have taken on both sides.

Instead we get posts like the one that started this thread calling neighboring departments cowards.

Disgraceful.

After reading that article, maybe you can help answer my questions,

I heard a rumor that the commissioners won’t pay for the repairs of a fire truck, is this true?

With that much of a surplus, why haven’t my taxes gone down?

Lee fireman own trucks. Lee Center Town own trucks. If it is a Lee Center town truck it is in top notch condition. The funds that go to Lee Fireman for their trucks? no one quite knows why their trucks don't get fixed.

The article is from the Rome Sentinel, but you had to know that if you read it, lol, and who said anything about the fireman wanting to be paid? Why reply to me if you can’t answer my question or even stay remotely close to the topic?
When people gear off tract of the original topic it is usually a sign of guilt, which is pretty much the case of most of these posts. Non supporters bringing up any dirt they can think of, off the subject of the commissioners closing the fire department due to lack of training, and the supporters trying to defend the fire department by replying to the “dirt”. I actually read a reply to a fireman listing his training that said, your missing the point, you don’t have to prove your training to us, prove it to the commissioners, are you for real? Isn’t the training the point? Don’t the commissioners already have there training records?
Back to my question, I am just wondering if the rumor I heard was true and if it is then why? I also was wondering why my taxes can’t or haven’t been lowered seeing (from the article) that there is at least 4 funds with a large surplus. But thanks to your, a non supporter, and a fireman’s response I got the answer, thanks.

I can be corrected but I believe the trucks that keep breaking down are the ones that the Commisioners (District)own. The District does not pay for any repairs to Dept owned apparartus.(Or anything for that matter) This is where fund raising comes in and the money helps pay for the Department owned equipment.
As far as engine 4 goes the commisioners will not pay to have it fixed.
But I know for a fact that recently a Fireman took a rig to the gas station to have it filed. When he tried to pay with the District Gas Card it was canceled by the Commisioners. The fireman had to use his own funds to pay for the gas that night. The gas card is still canceled.
So now the Firemen have to use thier own funds to put gas in the rigs and wait upto 30 days to get reimbursed. Does that sound like a Board that is concerned or a Board that is trying everything they can to make things hard on the VOLUNTEERS to volunteer.
As far as paid dept. They (the firemen) never asked to be paid. RUMOR is that the Board would like to get a paid dept in the district to replace the volunteers. But that is RUMUR.

OMG! Do you write the the National Enquirer? Show me any expense for diesel by the Lee Center fireman? Show me any expense at all! Lee Fireman (INC) don't even pay for their telephone bill and yet they have amassed 1Million in assets and another fund that isn't even disclosed to the public.
