Quick story: a few years ago I had 3 estimates for a new roof & installation of 2 skylights on my house; $10k,$8.5k and Taylor's $2.5k. Taylor was the only one that sent a worker up onto my roof and submitted a written estimate. Needless to say I went w/Taylor. A job well done and not one drop has leaked thru the skylights over the years. Taylor also handled a roofing job for an elderly neighbor; again a great job @ a reasonable price. Go with Taylor and you won't have any regrets!

Thanks for the input. It's nice to see this didn't turn into the typical topix bash fest.

I called him to do a roofing job for me a few years ago. He showed up to look and never got back to me. I called him a few times, never returned my call. I figured he was like the rest of the contractors around here: they only go after the big jobs. Money is tight now, very few people are doing house modifications so he's probably interested in doing work now or he won't eat.

Always got to be one.. I have known Taylor for years. He does a good job, and really one of the few that really knows his stuff. He did work for my mother-in-law and it came out great, and even went under what he quoted. There are some real loosers out there with hammers who claim to be contractors, but I would not let them build a dog house for me. Stick with Taylor.....

The first two estimates are probably realistic. A contractor that is drastically lower you have to wonder.

One of the few who knows whats he is doing. If anyone says other wise then there is more to the story then what they are telling. Taylor is a fair and if you are a senior he won't cheat you.

Actually, I think the first 2 estimates were an attempt at “fleecing” me! Taylor did the job @ the lower price; the roof & skylights have been in place now for 8 years and still like new. A job well done at a fair & very reasonable price!

Well I have some knowledge of the trade. When two bids are close and one is substainally lower it is usually because this contractor wants the job at all costs, doesn't no how to bid to make a decent profit or has left something out.
Two skylights installed and finished plus roofing! Yes that was a deal, did you have a coupon..LOL sorry.

Plusone: Nope, didn’t have a coupon (good line though!). The contractor had no knowledge of the other 2 quotes and I seriously doubt that it was a case of “wants the job at all costs.” In all honesty I think the first two bids were placed under the impression that I had substantially “deep pockets” which certainly wasn’t and isn’t the case. Anyway, thanks for the comments! I’ll keep an eye out for “contractor coupons!”

I had Bob Taylor out of Rome put a roof on my home several years ago. Once he got into the roof and flashing it was obvious more work needed to be done. He consulted me first on everything extra he did and quoted the extra work first with no surprises. At first he seemed a little odd but once you got to know him his actions spoke volumes for his work ethic and integrity. All of his crew were real hard workers and skilled. I have since recommended him to everyone I had an opportunity to do so. I hope business treats him very well in the future.
