A nearly two-year-old petition drive to dissolve the Lee Fire District is being revived by supporters of the Lee Center Fire Department in its dispute with fire district commissioners.Once again citizens of the Town of Lee have started a petition drive against the Board of Fire Commissioners due to the recent actions by the Board.
In the early stages of the dispute between the Fire Department and the Board of Commissioners members of the community came together and started a petition drive to remove the Board of Commissioners. During the last year while things seemed to be calm between the two entities the petition drive seemed to slow down also. But since resent events the community once again has risen up to say enough is enough.
Laking just a small percentage of the required signatures it will be presented to the Town Board once the goal is reached. John Urtz is quoted as saying that "there are certain vehicles we’d have to look at...but we’ve never really gotten into it because nothing has been presented."
Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Michael Thompson stated this about Brian Myndryck; "instead of trying to work on solving issues, wants to go out of his way...to eliminate...a check and balance for the fire department." He said Mandryck does "not want to work with the governing body....He wants to give the fire department unfettered control...."
Brian Mandryck was elected by the community in the last election but was removed by an oversight about his oath of office. Given many oportunities and even with strong public outcry the Board of Fire Commisioners have continued to refuse to reinstate Mr. Mandryck to the board. The Fire Commissioners have the legal power to oppoint the position back to Mr. Mandryck.Editors Note I believe it is the Board who are refusing to work with members of the community.

So I'm sitting here reading the By-laws the LCFD gave me when I was a member. Note..it does not appear to be approved by the Department (that space is blank) but it does refer to Junior members allowed to join the department.I can see if this is the same set of by-laws perhaps the commissioners are correct. They can't approve these applicants for now because by definition they (according to their by-laws )are not full fledged firefighters and would not be covered by insurance. That's all this town needs is another comp claim. May be the Commissioners have a valid concern here.
I like the previous responders name.. if it weren't taken already I'd use it too.

You are not wrong. In fact NY State has a multitude of rules regarding who can be on a scene at a fire and if you don't pass the training you are not in that scene. We trust the commanders however to enforce the rules.
