Kindergarten and First Grade in Russell County are not allowed naps, recess, and any type of party including (Halloween, Christmas). Me and several other parents do not agree that 5 and 6 year olds should have all of this taken away. We have been added to the next school board meeting agenda to tell the school board members how we feel about it. We are trying to get as many parents to come to the meeting to show the school board that we aren't happy. The next meeting is on October 6 at 6:00 anyone that can make it we will greatly appreciate it.

Ok so you want to send your child to school to sleep play and party??? They get lunch to eat and P.E. time for exercise. That dont leave alot of time to learn if you want to add parting naps and more play time does it? I personally send my child to school to learn!!!! If you want your child to have more play time spend that time together at home with them!

Then stop your bitching and home school your child. Parents like you want to sit back and "take control of the school's policies" when you dont make your children take naps,etc....and not to mention all the things you do in front of them. One is talking about the child's school and teachers in front of them. Let me tell you what my child's kindergarten teacher told me "CHILDREN ARE LITTL MIMICS" of their parents. Everything the children do or say at school is what they have heard their parents say or gossiping on the telephone about the teachers. If you dont like the way the schools (Teachers) are teaching your child, you have the right to home school them and that will solve your problem. You sound to me like one of those parents who dont make your children do any of this at home but you want to be in control of the childs classroom or the school. Now, Problem SOLVED!!

I think you are the one who needs to go back to first grade. I see why you are so upset about "home-schooling" your child. For example: "who the hell they "thank" they are? It's THINK!! If you can't find your spell-checker on your computer, for God's Sake get out your desk Dictionary. Stop making a fool out of yourself. I feel sorry for your child to have you for a parent because they will be hurting if you have to give out their spelling words. LMAO

You want them to be forced to nap when so few go to bed before 10. Practice your own proper sleep hygiene. Treats are allowed not full blown momma sessions. The meeting is taking place in the parent pick up line. They begin meeting around one thirty. Who are these people and why aren't they working?

As Im taking classes on becoming a teacher of young children, I, too am concerned about the lack of play time these young children receive. I think it's wonderful that our child today are so much more advanced, but we should only expect so much out of children that young. I believe we are going to 'burn' them out at a younger age. Furthermore, play is a very critical asset for young children. It teaches them social skills, coordination, and a number of other positive attributes. There needs to be a better balance. Just an opinion :)

I have a son in Kindergarten at LPS and although they don't get naps (5 and 6 year old children shouldn't require naps if their parents are getting them in bed at a decent time) they are allowed a Christmas party and they DO get recess, and they usually have special treats for Halloween and Valentine's Day, etc. You are also allowed to drop off cupcakes or special treats for birthdays, too. No, they don't allow you to stay and have an all-out party for birthdays, but with 20+ children in each class, that'd be a lot of parties.
They are there, after all, to learn.
If your 5 or 6 year old child is so tired that they need a nap during the middle of a school day, then you should probably get him/her in the bed at a decent hour. My son goes to bed at 8:30 pm and gets up at 6:30 am and he's fine.

I can't speak for others but I am working and so is my husband. I work during the day and am a nurse and he works 3rd shift in the mines. He wakes up, gets ready and goes to pick up our child. So this is who "these people" are at least on our part, and I hope that answers your question. FYI: Sometimes I may be there and he may not, I do get days off and he doesn't work a Mon-Fri schedule, he may work 7 days straight and get three off. But since you seem to know what time people "line up" what is your story?

I also have a right to send my kids to a public school and the last I knew I had a right to voice my opinion if I didn't like how things was going at my childs school. So if you want to set back and do nothing that is your right but leave the ones that do alone.
