I agree with the general tenor of all the comments. The laws against marijuana are draconian and will come down as soon as dinosaurs like the author are no longer with us. These laws contribute to the overcrowding of prisons and the early release of far more dangerous people.

Mr. Donahoo just so you know I am a senior in high school with a 4.0 GPA and I'm one of the members of the so-called "species" of "potheads". Your ignorance of the facts regarding marijuana and its users is appalling as well as extremely offensive. You're a disgrace to the Vallejo Times-Herald and journalists everywhere. If you want some advice, don't write about something you know absolutely nothing about!

I'm curious as to whether or not the Vallejo Times-Herald even bothers to read these comments. If so, I'd hope to see some type of acknowledgement. If anyone at this paper bothers to do any fact checking, this reporter should be banned from ever writing anything again, and/or the paper should issue an apology and acknowledge the error of it's ways. By not responding, they are guilty of permitting not only plageurism (albeit poorly done), but permitting the publication of disinformation.
Check the facts. Two very good references for the TRUTH are The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herer, as well as Alcohol is Safer: So Why Are We Driving People To Drink. Both of these books state honest facts, backed up with honest references. If the 'powers that be' at this publication are at all interested in the truth, they should do their due diligence and offer an appropriate response. Not only in their publication, but in this blog as well. Anything less is an admission that they either don't care, or don't know. Either way, were I a subscriber, I would surely cancel my subscription. If there is NO correction/acknowledgement/mea culpa, the editors/publishers need to be held personally resposnible. We are watching. We are informed. We care. Do you? |

On top of all of this Nazi-like dehumanization of people that the writer is going for, the biggest outrage is that I think the Fireman joke was actually a copy and pasted blonde joke! For shame

Come on people - Have you seen this guys picture???? He's got "pothead" written all over his face. Now I'm 58 years old and probably smoke pot once, maybe twice a year mostly because at my age it just makes me hungry and then makes me tired and what to fall asleep. I hope this guy is a valid columnist and is making a jokes about the people that smoke too much pot (yes you can smoke too much just like drink too much). If that's not what he's talking about then just let the fat old "pothead" rant.

I'm glad other folks, those equipped with sharper English skills have taken aim at this poorly written, not humorous and generally weak column. Cheap shots trying to perpetuate stereotypes are not funny, only offensive. Perhaps the columnist will give equal time next time around and poke at alcoholics? Like how funny they are when they drive drunk and cause vehicular mayhem? Ever notice how the drunk portrayed by Dean Martin isn't quite so compelling any more? Maybe we should poke fun at the current David Hasselhoff. Yeah. Really funny. "Pot Heads" is a derogatory term, derisive and mocking. It's time to put away the stoner imagery and treat folks based on their conduct as citizens, not by some throw-away jokes.

I am so happy to see that no posters fell for this idiots' comments. All of you have restored my faith in humanity. Smoke in peace!

Although I'm not entirely sure about your intent in writing this 'article", I think anyone who has any REAL experience with cannabis use will quickly realize the situations you are referencing would only happen to someone under the influence of LSD.
Perhaps you should do some research of your own.... Your writing is quite revealing of your personal nature. perhaps if you spent less time blindly trying to perpetuate (inaccurate) stereotypes and propaganda you would seem less ignorant and much less of a bigot. *go form some opinions of your own for a change* |

Legalize the pot, decriminalize the dope, punish criminal behavior, not use. Like the relegalization of alcohol, this will bankrupt the gangs and drug cartels, free up the prisons for actual criminals and fundamentally change the nature of the drug culture in america. I hate addicts, but it they don't committ crimes, who cares what they do?

Legalize it, regulate it and TAX IT! It's not going to go away

AMEN! Follow the Breckenridge Colorado example. If over 21 anything under 1 ounce is legal. For all of you that said states or city's can't legalize because of the Federal law, WRONG AGAIN! I would think you would get tired of all of your arguments constantly being disproved. |

Meanwhile, the Solano County board of Stupidvisors is expected to extend their moratorium on dispensaries for another two years. They claim that staff needs the time to "work out the details" What utter garbage. If passed, this won't be time to work out the details. It serves only to obfuscate, to delay, to postpone, to deny Californians the rights that they voted for. Prop 215 was passed in 1996. The county needs more time? Right. Amazing how much foot dragging "officials" can engage in when it's not their rights that are being trampled. How about 90 days, jerks? Figure it out.
|
|||
That's the style of the Solano goof balls.... in he end, with $80 million in surplus and reserved funds.... they don't really need the revenue... so fine... the Cities should do what they have to before those grredy dopes have a chance to put their grumpy paws on the revenue. |

let's encourage our kids to pick up a newspaper so they can read this? WAY TO GO TIMES HERALD!!

I'm pretty goddamn sure that we as Vallejo citizens have better things to do than make blatantly stupid "jokes" about weed. It is hardly a problem beyond conservative ignorant fears, and not nearly a problem as alcohol has obviously proven to be. Beyond that:
OUR CITY IS BANKRUPT! THERE ARE MURDERS AND ROBBERIES HAPPENING EVERY OTHER DAY! No has jobs, no one has money, and you're sitting on your ass writing about this. Attain some purpose and skill in your writing, Donahoo. Please don't continue posting crap like this while our city bleeds to death. |
