From a reliable source it is Applebees. There are 2 companys that have franchises and it is not the the same as Danville's Applebees.
Be great to have someplace different to go to and not have to drive 50 miles.

I'm a firm backer of The Oak Barrel. I beilieve that they may have chosen a truly certified chef from our own community and not some half assed fry cook. As for Applebees or Chilles, if you want to eat crap there are plenty of dairies around the county. (hot sauce not included)

The food in one's community is only going to be as palatable as one is willing to accept. You accept an applebee's or a chili's and you are doomed set a standard of commercialized crap lacking in coloquial representation. Yeh, let's be like Danville. Lebanon should be ashamed that it cannot sustain a market for a local restaurant that brings in people from counties away just for the local flavor. Midway has that Black Tulip place, (rumor has it a chef to the area is from that restaurant), a really decent restaurant in a tiny area that has no problem bringing in an audience. But hey I think we should sell out our individual identity to the highest bidder. I mean your town isn't a town unless it is representation of a shopping mall food court.

I am excited about the Oak Barrell opening soon, but I certainly don't agree that we should hold out for "local" restaurants only. We need diversification....a mix of locally owned & chain restaurants. Competition is good.

something more diverse than 3 mexican restaraunts, 2 chinese buffets and a handful of "downhome cookin" places would be nice...something gourmet with quality ingredients that does not make you visit the bathroom within 10 minutes of ingestion

Oak Barrel? A cheap imitation of the cracker barrell? Speaking of half ass fry cooks, I heard the Krusty Krab is coming to Lebanon this summer.

I don't think the Oak Barrell is going to be anything like a Cracker Barrel. From what I understand it is going to be some what more of an upscale restaurant.

I wish a few chain resturants would come in to town and challange Hennings and Rosewood. The past couple of times I was in these resturants, it seems if you are not part of the what I call the "members only" croud you will be lucky to get good service or any at all.

Judging by all the demolition they are doing, I would say it will be a while. However, I noticed they have signs on their windows saying they are taking applications.

The new chef at the Oak Barrel is going to be Brian Blandford. I've eaten his food and it is pretty effing fantastic. He's Toby and Eric Blandford's little brother, and I think he went to Sullivan's culinary school. Then he worked as a chef at Sevice in Louisville, and then at the Black Tulip in Midway. And Black Tulip is without doubt one of the best restaurants in Kentucky.

So at least the food there should be really good. I haven't heard about what kind of prices will be there or what they'll have on the menu.
