Did we hire Montrelle for the same reason that we hired Trent? Not for his teaching or his coaching but the players that he can bring with him.

Irvin has had nothing but praise on KY Preps forum, but this is topix, so what do you expect. Give the guy a chance.

I agree we should give him a chance, since he has already been hired-he might be a great coach. My issue is we should put education first, so why are we hiring coaches without degrees in Education? There are plenty of coaches out there, and someone like Montrelle should come on board as an assistant coach.

could it be friends writing the praise? family writing the praise? the coach writing the praise? hmmm. i guess with such a great coach in charge now and some transfers moving in marion should be the favorite to win the region.

If he's not a teacher and he's bringing in two kids from another school (is one his son), it's pretty evident why he got the job.

The people complaining about the coach should have applied for the job since you think he's not good enough for your perfect little town.

Things aren't like they use to be. I agree education comes first. My kids make the grades or they don't play. They are in school for the education. However, sports are a great motivator and a great character building. Teaches many lessons that kids would not learn otherwise. Schools sports teams bring the community together and gives a sense of pride. As far as the teacher/coach deal. I want teachers hired that are good educators, not because they are good coaches. I don't want a teaching position wasted just to bring in a coach. You also don't want to hire a coach who doesn't know what they are doing just because he/she is a teacher. You can't hardly find one that is both these days. Just like kids don't have the work ethic, many teachers don't either. They want to put in their minimum time and go home. You don't have those who will do clubs, teams, etc. anymore. Many want to teach just to have their summers off... sometimes they still do a good job, but don't ask any extra of them. So, to sum up what I am trying to say, it is not a bad thing to hire coaches who are not teachers. Many school functions, activities, etc these days have people in the community in charge because you simply don't have teachers willing to do it.

not negative. marion should have already been the favorite for the district. now add some transfers in and a coach with all this praise and maybe you have the makings of a region champion. was just pointing out that message board praise dont mean a thing because folks can get on there and promote themselves if they like. i do have some questions though.
a) what kind of style did his teams at shawnee play
b) where was he at before he went to shawnee
c) why did shawnee not keep him
d) who is this second transfer they have mentioned? one is his son but who is the other?

His son from Taylor. A Goodin kid from Taylor.
Why is winning so important?
Can't we hire good role models for our children? Coaches who don't sleep around and father children from multiple women without ever being married? Don't give me the crap that what they do on their personal time is their business. When they accept a position in the public eye, they can't wear two hats.

If it is the quentin goodin kid who is going to be an 8th grader, he started for Taylor County as 7th grader and is one of the best 8th graders in the state, top 3 and one of the top 150-200 in the nation according to different services.. of course those change as progression does.
