Yeah.. hi. I got hit with a surcharge today and decided to research the topic because I had no idea what one was? Because all of my tickets have been taken care of and the fact that I owed my DPS is ludicrous.

Anyways, apparently this law was supposed to be repealed September, however it is October and we're still seeing this problem I guess. Is there a site I could go to to see the technicalities of this law? Or maybe to see that at one point it was going to be repealed?

I'm very interested in this Topic because it is indeed very scammy and it sucks I have to pay a hundred dollars for a ticket that was previously DISMISSED.

Would love a reply, thanks a bunch.

If you follow the laws of the land you won't have to worry about any surcharges. Was you driving without insurance or driving drunk? You could be required to pay surcharges for years, depending on the law that you broke. Those of us who follow the law have no problem with surcharges.

Pay up and stop your whining.

Desi, it seems that you don't know what you talking about. saying that everyone is driving drunk or without insurance it total ignorance. I guess to post about applying to the secret service only requires a brain, not a functioning one.

How are you going to pay your house note and your insurance son? Will you get unemployment?
You better not think that you are moving home.
You are going to have to go back to mall security.

I got hit with a surcharge last year, when I paid it off, yet another was added. So yes this sucks, then I lost my job and not able to pay, then my license was suspended and I was never notified, They added one from a ticket foe no insurance from 2009 that had been dismissed with proof of insurance, so they are nothing but crooks, so yes someone needs to do something about it .

I am proud that people are finally not allowing this kind of theft to continue. The economy is bad enough, gas prices, if you make a mistake you are charged, sentenced and pay your fine, For dps SURCHARGES to be ever so powerful as to destroy a job, a family and the ability for someone to provide for their family....one word...EXTORTION
Today DPS might as well be connected to The Mexican drug mob, or the Italian drug mob because they are steeling from our families , to put food on the table , pay bills to keep our children safe and clothes, some us don't get on welfare either.

And if you would have paid the surcharge before going out of town it wouldn't have been a problem. Once again, you fail to take responsibility. Stop with the excuses !

Some of you don't realize but most insurance companies won't insure a car unless they see it, plus they need the vin # so a lot them don't give out an insurance cards without inspecting the car

We are looking at options to fill petitions to get this bogus law repealed. Your city has certain court days. volunteers would stand in front of the entry with a small sign that says " Repeal Drivers responsiability Surcharge law" and have a sheet to take names on. Lets put our ideas together and get this done!
Where do we start, I'd like to get one out here to add to it

It's not a bogus law, carry freaking auto insurance... It's that easy! Stop living like trash and driving dirty and wondering why you get a ticket or go to jail! If u hit my car and can't afford to fix it and don't have insurance how is that fair to me or my problem? Get insurance ! Stop blowing money on booze, smokes, going out, or even driving your damn car if u can't afford insurance on it! Trash ball!
Otherwise pay the damn surcharges, get an SR22, and auto insurance and live like white people. Or don't own a damn car!

Sick of people causing their own problems and then crying about them it's called the law, grow up!

Annnnnd flowers insurance companies only need to inspect vehicles if you need full coverage on the vehicle.
They always need the vin number for any type of coverage.
You can get a non owners policy for SR22 insurance.
There are many different types of insurance coverages.

I sell and underwrite insurance.

Desi keeps talking about people who are drinking and driving and people who do not carry/pay for insurance. As you can see from these comments there are many people paying surcharges who have not recieved dwi's or a ticket for no insurance. A lot of these people simply did not have their insurance card with them and recieved a ticket for that , which led to surcharges. So obviously this program is not just about punishing those who drink and drive or drive without insurance, but much more than that. You can end up paying surcharges just for accrewing too many points for speeding, running lights, or stop signs. These types of things can happen to the most "law biding " citizens. I feel that her job is to make every one who opposes this program look like "low life's", there for deeming this program a good thing. This program is nothing more than a way for the state to grab more money from its peoples by saying it goes to trauma care , which is only where 49.9% is supposed to be going, which its not even that. Trauma care institutions first must know about this program and then request the funds, which most are denied out of mistakes in paperwork or whatnot. This program is a lie with liars and thieves behind it who do not want to let the money go and more than likely will not. These people are only telling half truths! How about it Desi?

My name is Joel Lee. The Texas drivers responsibility program has taken a terrible toll on my life. As a single father raising a son with autism and never having a single offense other than being labeled a habitual driving offender because I got more than 3 speeding tickets within a 6 month period, I got pulled over for going 35 in a 20 MPh zone and found i had received a 6 month suspension. I lost my job as a field technician for an oil company, I lost my hone, my car and my marriage and any chance at earning a decent living without a driver's license. I have never stopped working and I have to drive to feed my son and in the 9 years my license has been suspended I have been ticketed again and again for such terrible offenses as driving my son to the hospital, to school, to church, driving to work. America is not supposed to be like this. The politicians have hopelessly lost touch with the vital fundamental concepts that are most precious to this nation. I have never once been arrested in my life and have absolutely zero criminal history. So, in conclusion, I am now in north dakota and I intend to never again set foot in the state of Texas because I am forced to live as a sub class citizen and have absolutely no way of paying the massive amount of tickets that I owe and I am not even eligible for a license anyway according to the wise computer system that has crushed any chance I had a living a decent life. Yall can have it.
