Possibly moving to Friendswood.I am a SAHM,hubby will work in Houston,we have one 8yr old girl.Research indicates Friendswood offers all we would like in every way. There are so many different sections that I would like some help narrowing down my search. What would be considered the "better" areas?Which school district is more desirable? Is this a hard community to break into socially or are people open to new arrivals?I am most concerned for my daughter.ANY and all advise/comments would be greatly appreciated.Thank you all in advance.

You want to stay in The Friendswood Independent School District not Clear Creek Independent School District.
look at this site:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendswood,_Tex...

Taxes are good. People are nice. HEB is GREAT! There are a couple of nice communities. Not much in the way of new construction to choose from, but that keeps property values up.(no cheap builders) The average home needs to be at least 350K for the city to get anything out of the taxes...the cost of the school district and generel upkeep of city services detrmines that price delta. Many Astronauts live in the area as well as Executives from Downtown and Galveston as we are midway between both.
Friendswood Lakes is nice and a new development is West Ranch. But you can easily find $1Million + home sites. Dont know the social scene, but all kids think they are rich, They just dont realize that they dont own anything, thier parents do.

Stay away from Forest Bend which is the neighborhood Dylan got killed in. Lots of drugs and crime. Also, stay away from Wedgewood. Brookside Intermediate is where all the kids from those 2 neighborhoods go as well as Clear Brook High School. You might also want to look into League City which is the next city over. Friendswood has really gone down hill and the cost of living is high. It has almost been a 1 year since I moved my family from there and the attitude is gone and the gangster talk is gone and their grades are up. We moved to
Spring, TX. Friendswood police are not very helpful at all their there to make a quick buck for the city. However, the kids are unruly in those 2 neighborhoods and the parents think their kids are perfect and don't do anything wrong. I only know this from experience.

Good Luck

Wow!! You are certainly full of useless information Mel. I think I read in a previous post that you moved out of Friendswood. Thank God for that. You are hateful and uninformed.

Can't be uniformed because I lived in Friendswood for over 10 years. The neighborhood Forest Bend which we lived in 2 blocks away from all of this has gotten really bad. Drive around look for yourself. I know about the credit card fraud going on in the neighborhood as well as the person who painted peoples cars and houses including his own so he wouldn't get caught. Now do you think I wanted to continue raising my kids around all of the violence. Hell no... You will only understand when you have kids of your own then and only then will you understand where I'm coming from. You try to protect your kids as best as you can. It was getting to where I couldn't protect them from the bad kids in the neighborhood so we moved and I don't have to deal with it anymore.

Kathleen, Mel get your info. correct. Those two neighborhoods are in the cty of Friendswood but in CCISD not FISD. We were recently voted by Money Magazine / CNN as one of the best places in the USA to live in regards to the schools, crime etc. You both are ignorant. Mel you lived there for 10 years and did not know that, you need help. I grew up in Spring and my Family still lives there. It is getting worse every year. Just take a walk through Spring High or Klien Oak during the day.....Well try to if you can make it through the security gaurds and metal detectors at every corner. Friendswood is by far the best place in the Houston area to live. That comes from a 4th generation Houstonian.

Friendswood has some of the BEST rated schools around. Their extra activites they have are wonderful with lots and lots of support from city, families, community, churchs, fire dept, ems, police .... They have a nice tight group of people that watch out for each other.. their crime rate is LOW!!. look at the stats on the city cite. also the fire dept is very well rated. the ISO rating is so good that insurance had went down when they achieved a very very good rating.. their iso rating is as good at NY, LA ect

Forest of Friendswood's not bad. FFISD is a great district, too. Not so sure about CCISD though. I've heard some talk about gang violence originating from Clear Creek.

Live here since the 70's great place to live. The high crime rate comes from across the creek. Stay in the Galveston County part of Friendswood which is also FISD. Great schools.

CCISD has the best schools in the county.
This is from the website
"The district received a rating of “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ new Schools FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas) program. The Superior Achievement rating is the state’s highest designation and is given to districts that demonstrate an effective and efficient financial management and reporting system"
There are several new subdivisions in the area going up of the 96. Tuscan Lakes is really nice. They have 2 subdivisions toward 146.
I love it here. We have 3 children and have really enjoyed living here. The area is growing and the children in the schools are really diverse. My daughter has a handicap and the children are wonderful with her.
Good luck on your move!!

I have lived in Friendswood all my life. I love it here. I never had a problem with any of the schools. I graduated from FISD as a 12 year senior. There are many benifits to living in Friendswood. Great schools, friendly people (no pun intended), absolutley great Fire and EMS protection!! My house caught on fire and I had 2 full fire crews on 2 different engines respond within in a matter of minutes along with an ambulance and the police department. The fire dept. personell took me and my family aside and counseled us, letting us know what to do and how to get our house repaired. One member even offered his home to my family for the night!! The police department is infamous for writing speeding tickets but they are only doing thier job. Don't speed and you'll be fine! Other than that if you need them, they will respond and with force if need be! Overall I enjoy the city of Friendswood and would reccomend it to anyone!

I'm not sure what kind of kids you've got, or who they hang out with, but my son went to graduated from Brookside, and is now a freshman at Friendswood High School, and he has never had a problem with gangs or grades. He has loved both schools, and has excelled in both enviroments just fine. Maybe you're just looking for a scape goat to explain why your kids haven't done so well. With the kind of negitivity you've spewed, maybe you should look at yourself as a reason they don't do well.

send your kids to FISD, friendswood is full of great schools and programs, many of their programs go to state level competitions every year and win tons of awards. yes it costs a lot to live there, but it is not on the top 100 places to live in the nation for no reason!

Amen To You The Whole Attitude from quite a few who live in Friendswood are that they are Superior and that everyone who does not live there is low class..... I applaud your comments and hate the Attitudes of Most who think that they are better when in actuality they are just in More Debt and Pissed about it.....
