Bismarck seemed to make a great hit on the house fire this morning. Very quick response! Glad to have a department like them in the area!

How in the hell can you say good job on a fire that completly destroyed a house? go drive by and look at it the fire spread through every room in the house. you would be just in saying good job if they had contained the fire to one room or even one floor but they did niether and the saddest part of all is the fact that this house is less than a thirty second drive from the fire house. it clearly should have been contained to one or two rooms and some smoke damage. the only reason the frame of the structure is still standing is due to the fact that other fire depts. show up and knew how to put out a fire. so no not a good job but just another prime example of how lousy this towns fire dept. truly is.

Obviously you have never been on a volunteer fire dept. This is not a paid fire dept. and there are not always people there. So from the time they were paged out at midnight, they got up, dressed, drove to the firehouse, put on their gear, got in a truck, and drove to the scene they actually made great time. And not to mention they did all of this FREE OF CHARGE!

if thats so then why do all the other volunteer depts. in the area generaly have a much better average response time. so quit trying to defend this group of losers which it sounds like your part of.

I have am not part of Bismarck never have been. It is very rare for a volunteer fire dept to save a house (that is actually burning). By the time the homeowner calls 911 and and the firefighters can get to the station the building is usually well involved. Bismarck also covers a VERY large area and has to drive to the scene. Believe it or not a fire truck does not go 100 mph. Since obviously you have spare time to waste on here talking about how bad the fire dept is, why don't you look on YouTube at some videos that can show you how fast something as small as a curtain can engulf an entire room!

they don't..get yourself a scanner and listen for a while..its a bad time right now for the fire service, (assuming because most of it is for free) and all departments are having problems with response times..it happens, its not just one fire dept getting 2nd paged or filled in for, but several of them..you people need to relax and find something else to bitch about..it's seriously exhausting

i have a scanner and i do listen to it and bismarck does have the slowest response times of any dept. around. and what does the size of there coverage area have to do with this when the house that burnt is within sight of the fire house. It is truly sad how poorly this fire department performs when called upon. whats more sad is a fire chief who puts his fears of being watched or filmed before patient care at a car wreck.

well..either way, it's debatable as far as response times are considered..they will have good days and bad days just like anywhere else..but you can't complain about things without going down there and trying to help out and seeing it first hand..the fire service as a whole has a problem finding decent help anymore, mostly I feel because people are broke these days and dont have the extra money to spend in gas or other needs they may need to contribute to in order to be a part of the fire service..i'm not saying bismarck is better than other departments or worse, i'm just saying you should just consider all ends of the spectrum before putting them down, after all they really do try to help

The response time was fine but to have to be paged out again at 5 am becuz they didn't get the house put out is a shame.

Instead of complaining so much about bismarcks fire dept. how about complain because all you people won't vote in a tax levy which will include everyone not just rural but city too. With the tax levy then the dept can afford to do more to provide better service. Maybe even a paid fireman to be sure someone is at station at all times. Better equipment and afford better training. All this crap you keep stirring chuck is part to most of problem

I completely agree that the citizens should vote in favor of the tax levy, however, I don't feel that Chuck is to blame for the problems.
He's worked as a paid (professional) firefighter for a very successful fire protection district for numerous years, so he has the experience, training and knowledge.
If they would listen to him (or if the board would get the training they're required to get)and follow the advice on district matters, things would certainly go a lot smoother.
