This isn't a race, it's a bunch of freds on bikes riding for 100 miles. A race would require a completely different training regimen, skills, and strengths, and 99% of the people that ride the century wouldn't even finish a race......

It's never been referred to as a race, not even in this article. So, what exactly is your problem again besides your arrogance? I doubt that a "procyclist", would make such a comment.

Shouldn't you be in the Gila riding with Lance and Levi?

People like procyclist give roadies a bad name. I cringe when a cyclist acts this way.

I bet his first name is... Fred! hold your line, Fred

A real cyclist wouldn't post such a lame reply.

Ya Kim and Michelle! U ladies look great! I 2 am being trained by Kim and she is an inspiration for those of us reconnecting with our inner athlete. She's not too good to help those of us who, though we may not be "procyclists", still have the courage to "saddle up" and endeavor to do the best we can.
Oh ya, and "procyclist" you must be one of those pendejos who rides around SF and doesn't even have the common courtesy to wave hello. My advise to u is to be careful and don't get a flat in the wrong barrio. With that attitude, te va mal.

As a proud, card-carrying Fred in my 30th year of lots of bicycling, I'll be riding this "tour" with my Fredette wife on our tandem.

The article mistakenly calls this a race in one sentence, but otherwise calls it a tour. I think the readers get the point. Folks can ride a Century as hard as they want. Some teams use it as training and go all out and some individuals can time trial the whole thing for a personal best. But sure, its not a race. Its whatever riders make of it. Its a celebration of cycling and of Northern New Mexico's lovely scenery and challenging altitude.

Meanwhile, back to the main point. We cyclists owe Willard Chilcott and the folks who put on the SF Century a huge debt of gratitude. I was president of the Hawaii Bicycling League a while back, and we put on several major rides per year. It is a lot of work.

I certainly hope you are not referring to the Leadville 100 as not being a race. I'm sure that Lance Armstrong (who took second in the RACE last year would argue with that). Although based on your statements, you probably know more than Lance too, right?
