I personally would like to see it go wet; I know a lot of people are not for it though.
What do you think?

I think it would bring in alot of much needed revenue to the area. I also think however that the DWI rate may increase, however it is already pretty high in our area, so it may not make much of a difference. I would like to see it come in though, if for nothing else than some really good restaurants come in.

I personally don't want to see Boone County become legally wet, but I'm not naive. There are places already that you can wet your whistle in Harrison, you have the state line, not 6 miles from my home in Omaha that you can take your pick, Rapid Roberts or Wild Bill's, you got Quicker Liquor between Alpena and Green Forest, it's not that hard to get.
I'm not sure liquor is what made Taney County Missouri roads, I believe 90% of it came from the tourists vacationing, not the booze. The other arguement, people say if you have it in your county, your more likely to drink and drive, again I'm not so sure, back when I did partake, I'd open up before I crossed the state line, I'm not proud of that neither, I thank God on my knees I didn't kill anyone while I was blacked out, many a day I'd get home not remembering how I got there, that's scary, it scares me more now then it did then. I hope we never becolme legally wet, but I know it's a question of time, may no innocent person be killed by an impaired driver, a dear friend of mine, last year from this area, was killed by a drunk driver, that will haunt that boy the rest of his life, it's only by the grace of God I never done the same thing, the drunk driving in Boone County is one of my greatest fears. |

I believe it would help our economy.
At a hotel I was working for here in town. I seen many people that were registered for their room for a week. They only stayed one night and went to Branson where they could have cocktails at a lounge or go out dancing. So yes we are loosing business because of our dry county. If these people would have had the chance to stay here for the week. They would have went shopping here, ate out here, bought gas here...etc. |
||||
|
I see your point Economy Concerned, but Branson has one thing Harrison hasn't got, fun things for the tourist to do. I say that with no harm intended to Harrison, I shop Harrison, have worked in Harrison, I work in Branson now, to me it looks much better leaving then coming, if people had to fight that traffic everyday, they wouldn't be as thrilled to be up there, but tourists aren't here to make a living, their here to have fun, if Harrison wants tourists, their going to have to figure a way for tourists to have fun, bottomline.

I do agree with you, on this subject, we are losing lot's of money and jobs! Stores are closing, people can't find jobs, most companies in this area are on hiring freeze and taking pay cuts. The liquor law should have passed! Yes just think about the money that would have been spent had they (couple) stayed in Harrison and had fun. |

If this town would get there head out of there a$$, it could ride on the back of Bransons tourism. Ya, Ya.... booze didnt pass, oh well. There are other ways to market this town.
|
|||
What other ways? If you know of some maybe we could get a kick start..and get the ball rolling in this town. |

Would have to start with condemning the properties around hwy 65 and buss 65. That are not to city codes, get rid of the junk! Start with that, nobody wants to come to this town and look at all the junked up condemned stores, motels, homes, etc. If these owners of such properties are not in the citys pockets? |

I say we put in a Race track and get a Casino along with the liquor. This will bring in the kind of people we want to to increase the local economy. Wow I can feel the horns growing right out of my head.

AND if they keep having an attitude about 'Yankees' visiting or living here they'll never prosper. Can't have a good economy without more people. Look at all the houses for sale in the area. I'll bet lots of them are 'Yankees' moving away. And I know several 'Yanks' who go to Springfield to shop. They don't like the attitudes. But........whatever. It's like beating a dead horse. The locals don't realize what they're doing, and don't care. It's always 'damn Yankees go home'! Got to get back to cuttin' trees! |

Yes but, with crime familys you can move up in the ranks. In Harrison you have to be born into them....lol.. Now leave me alone, got some more trees to cut down! |

There are things we can do to develop Harrison. It requires playing to Harrisons strengths. Develop Dry Jordan Creek to become a riverwalk, restore downtown, get a real mall, remove the eyesores that FunnyGuy mentioned, attract transportation companies, but most importantly we have to find a way to keep our kids here. They are what will grow the town.

I for one don't shop in harrison it is the highest place in the country to buy anything.I bought a new truck last year saved $2500.00 not buying here.Shop harrison first they say I say what the hell for.You don't support me I don't support you it's a two way street.The casino would be a good thing for boone county.Branson will have casinos in a few years we might as well have one on our side of the border.It will save a trip to tunica.Then a wet county will follow I believe.

1 I understand that allowing alcohol to be sold here would increase the counties revenue, but is it really worth the inevitable increase in alcohol related injuries and deaths due to drunk drivers? If you're for Boone becoming a wet county, please watch these videos (you might have to copy and paste the links), they may change your mind. These could be YOUR loved ones... (the aftermath) http://www.youtube.com/watch... (the actual crash) http://www.youtube.com/watch... Please drink responsibly...DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!! |

i think the dwi rate would drop because people wouldnt have to drive so far to feed their addiction.
