Assurant sucks. It is a good place to work for a young teen's first job, but definitely not a career move. The attrition rate is ridiculous and Assurant is known for firing long term employees because they cost the company money.

Just spoke with an Assurant employee who completely agreed. I can't believe they get away with stuff like this ... has anyone tried to file a case? Would be interesting to look into.

I heard Assurant is not the place to work long term. The horror stories are true so it would seem from previous posts. I heard short term its ok, but nothing more. Personally if I didnt have a job period I would at least try it. I mean its a paycheck and its not the worst job in the world.

I was recently hired at Assurant and I have to disagree with all of you. Assurant is a great place to work and I would definetly say that it would be a good career move. They have excellent benefits, paid holidays, paid leave, and not to mention......THE PAY IS GREAT!!! Any job is what YOU make it.

I work there now and it is okay. I was working full time and I just had to go part. I just don't like the sitting around and being on the phone for so long. But hey i choose it and it is awesome pay. I have heard horror stories about some campaigns in assurant. i work with mighty-net and they are the easiest one to work with. very flexible.

whether a sexual orientation is right or wrong, and whether or not it is wrong to fire a person based on sexual orientation aside. Would you not agree that an employer is within his rights to have the type of people he wants working for him? just like whether right or wrong, a homosexual should be able to engage in whatever consensual sexual act that he wishes?

sexual acts and discrimination/labor laws are really opposite one another

I've worked for Assurant in Lawton for 6 years. It's not bad. It's a corporation...basically every corporation has the same problems. The only problem I see is that Assurant is not family friendly at all. most people are termed b/c they have to call in on days that day cares are closed, such as holidays, which we work on my side of the building. Also... the schedules suck.

I work at Assurant (I'm actually at work now...) and I have to say... this job is the best I've ever had. Compaired to other jobs in Lawton, this job is the ABSOLUTE best. Scgeduals only suck if you have a kid(s), which I don't. The pay is excelent. Only job better paying is Goodyear put you're over worked and scheduals are even worse than ours. I work on the 'good' side of the business and it's awesome. I get paid and fed to sit here in a comfy chair in an air conditioned room and tell people no all day, haha. And there are benefits!!!

Do you remember a couple of yeaqrs ago Oklahoma passed a "right to work" law? Well, it gave employers the right to let go whoever they please at any time. They don't have to give you a reason either and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

I have worked here at Assurant longer than any other job I've ever had. It is a business, not a charity. They expect results. They expect people to show up to work. And if you don't like working here, no one put a gun to your head and made you show up in the first place.
Is it perfect??? Of course not. They do bend over backwards to help people with families but you're right: more people get terminated for family/child care related absences then for any other reason.
But someone actually believes they got fired because of their sexual orientation??? Are you f@#$%^ng kidding me?! Our office has more people who live "alternative" lifestyles than any other place in town. Our insurance even allows you to cover your domestic partner and his or her children.
If you think this job sucks, wait until mom and dad kick you out of the basement......errr I mean your apartment, and you're actually forced to go out into the world and make a REAL sacrifice for your family. Spend some time digging ditches or serving in the military.

I worked at Assurant Michigan until recently, and the one thing that I really think would help this company would be if the employees started a union. I know that a lot od people are anti union and I understand why, but this is EXACTLY the type of job where one is needed. I thought the most absurd thing was the idea the you only get three coll in's a year.. How about sick time?? I do not know about you but generally I dont know i ma sick until about 3am.. too late to schedule it... I think that people really need to start thinking union.....
