Buford mother's death 'suspicious,' police say

Gwinnett County police are calling the death of a Buford woman "suspicious" after she died after an altercation with her two daughters Sunday night.

This story is extremely disturbing for me. The neighborhood is close to mine and my daughter actually knows these girls. Local reports say the girls are charged with misdemeaner manslaughter and the other with misdemeaner tampering with evidence.

A neighbor states the mother recently disclosed to him that she feared her life was in danger when she found something suspicious in a drink.

What is up in the minds of teenagers today??

I live in buford, just 2 miles from this family. My daughter is/was friends with the children. It's a small town and I work in the city where the crime lab is. Things get out before they make the newspapers and hits the local news first!

Muriel didn't deserve this. She was so excited to to adopt a daughter . She made many trips to Guatemala to see them and finely she was able to bring one home. a couple of years later she was able to giver her daughter a sister.

That's what us local folks are saying. I mean she went out of her way to provide a better life for two young women. Beautiful home, great place to live.

Were there any toxicology results released with the autopsy? I'll be there was something in her system too.

I have been told that it can take up to 2 weeks for a toxicology report

I haven't heard anything about toxicology reports. In fact, I've not heard much more about this story at all. It seems that the democratic primary took precedence over this.

I have nothing I'm sorry. Like I said all I see on the news is politics and terrorists. I've been doing some searching in the local papers and have heard nothing.

I'm sure if anything else comes out of the investigation, we'll hear about it. It is a shame though that a case like this is falling to the back burner.

Ever considered how this woman might have been treating these children? Or whether or not they were fearful of their own lives? No, I'm not trying to justify a horrible act, but it strikes me that all of your comments are terribly biased.

We or I rather, live in this community. My daughter was friends with these girls. Muriel had friends and neighbors. And beleive me, neighbors know what's going on.

Something was very wrong with the 2nd adopted teen. The first adopted girl adjusted well and it wasn't until her best friend was adopted and came to live with them that all went down hill. Muriel was a loving person to family and friends. She did not deserve this awful tragedy. Her family and friends will not rest until justice is done with these girls. They didn't know the consequences of their actions but believe me, I hope they are scared now because they didn't know how good they had it. We mourn Muriel's loss of life but will never forget her.

i am a friend to both of these girls. They are great kids and im sure they would never do anything as horrible as this. one of the daughters told me that there mother was abusive and hit the girls often.

I'm sorry but you have no idea how wrong you are about the girls. I can't imagine this either. We are all shattered by this tragedy.

It is strange how everyone is drawing their own conclusion, but what everyone needs to understand that NO acts of violence or abuse should be tolerated! Period. If in fact these girls were being abused physically by their mother, as one of the daughter's had confided in my son, then the mother should have been stopped before this tragedy happened. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. Let the authorities do their job. Abuse is a vicious cycle and keep in mind that these girls may have been afraid to tell anybody as one daughter confided in my son. Most likely because if the mother found out, as in most cases, the abuse would resurface and become worse. Don't assume... allow the professionals to do their job and run a complete investigation in this very tragic event.
