I've loved that place since it first opened & it has been our favorite "go to" place for special occasions. The past few times, however, have been infuriating!

First time, they "forgot" to turn in my & a friend's food orders at lunch. 45 minutes after we ordered, when people who had come in after us were already done & leaving, the server came over with our bill & asked if we wanted dessert or were we ready to leave!!! I told him we'd never gotten our food in the first place!!! Most places would have apologized profusely and comped part or all of the meal... Not La Isla. He just nonchalantly said "Oh, it'll be a few more minutes" and walked off. About 15 minutes later (an hour after we ordered) as we were walking out, they brought our food to the table. And they weren't pleased when we told them to keep it, we didn't have time to eat by that point. We were already late getting back to work thanks to them. They kept saying they would package it for take out. Fat lotta good that would have done - it's not like you can eat while working!!

The next time I was there with my whole family. Ordering went fine, I ordered my usual & the server repeated our orders back to us & all was good. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Except they brought me the wrong meal. When I pointed this out, the server kept trying to say that was what I had ordered. We ALL kept telling him it was not, that he'd even repeated the order back to us. Finally, a manager (I guess, he didn't introduce himself) came over & took my plate. Didn't say anything just grabbed it & took it. About 20 minutes later, when my family was all done eating, he brought it back out (with the correct meal this time), shoved it in front of me & asked "Is this better??" in a really sarcastic tone of voice. I was ticked but went on & ate because, short of going thru the McDonald's drive thru, I didn't have any other choice. Needless to say, since everyone else was already finished eating, it was very awkward and I had to rush & didn't get to enjoy any of my meal.

Like I said, I've loved this place since it first opened but two experieces like this in just a short time make me unwilling to go back again. Especially since I don't have the opportunity to eat out very often & would like to enjoy it on the rare occasions when I do!!

LaIsla is great and if they messed up twice, big deal. It's just food. Move on with life. I love this place and go here quite often and yeah there have been times when they've been busy and my food is late but its always delicious quality food. And the servers are mexican so there is a language barrier, they won't always understand you just like you don't always understand them. To answer your question NO Laisla is NOT going down hill.

I have been going to La Isla for quite awhile now. I dont necessarily think they are going downhill because if you look at the parking lot, it is jam packed almost every single night and often times there is a line waiting for a table.
Drive by the other 2 mexican restaraunts in town and you will NOT see the same thing.
Yes service seems to have slowed down a tad, but if you will notice its about the time that it seems everyone in Lburg has decided to start coming there.
There is no way I could do that type of work, way too hectic for me.
Just be patient and give them another chance and if they fail again, then ask for the manager and nicely explain that this was their 3rd test and why you wont be back.
Hopefully we all learn from mistakes and I am sure if you go and talk to them in a nice way they will be more than willing to make you happy again.

I could understand (at least somewhat) if it had been busy when this occurred but neither time was the place even partly full... First time was at lunch & there were many seats still available. Second time was early in the evening before the rush & once again, there were many booths still open.(In the past, we've occasionally had to wait for a table & still got better service than this past two times!)

As much as I've loved their food over the years (and as many people that I've recommended La Isla to), I'm reluctant to take a chance on wasting more of my hard-earned money there anymore. One mistake is understandable, two in a row is b.s.! I won't be going back again.

I was just wanting to see if toher people were experiencing the same thing.

I was there a few weeks ago and I had come in with several of of my friends and we sat down there close to the back by where they cook and as soon as i sat down I had a roach on my table i knocked it off to the floor and stepped on it and killed it and told my wife who was sitting across from me and she looked at it and shook her head. I was going to leave but didnt want to upset my friends by leaving. But I sure did check my food. I should have called the health dept.

Funny I have been going there practically since the day they opened and have probably sat in every single seat in the place and have never seen a roach.
Maybe it came in on someone else.
As they say almost all restaraunts have roaches and mice, but I can honestly say I have never seen one there and from all that I have seen they are very clean there.

Sounds like some other restaraunt in Lawrenceburg is trying to sabotage LaIsla with claims of roaches and bad service. Well everyone who goes there knows how good a establishment LaIsla is and you can bad mouth it if you want but the fact that the parking lot in FULL every night of the week is proof that its well liked and aint going anywhere anytime soon!

That is exactly what I was thinking Poncho!!!
Nothing with the food has changed since I have been going there(since they opened).
Funny that this post and the one about LaFiesta came up around the same time.
My guess is its someone trying to drum up business for them with the new changes.
Good Luck with that, I doubt Lawrenceburg can support a Cuban restaraunt, that is not something most of these palletes, including mine are used to.
Keep up the good work La Isla because yes that parking lot is packed almost every single night, so why would people go there for bad food or crappy service? Give us a break!

Hate to tell ya but I don't have anything to do with either of the other restaurants. Wouldn't eat at El Maguey (assuming it's still open) if it wsa the only place in town! I'll drive to Frankfort first!

And I've never even sat foot in the other place (La Fiesta) or whatever it's caused because everyone I know who ate there said it wasn't worth it.(And now it's going Cuban?? In Lawrenceburg??? Are you kidding me?!?!?!?! Are these the same owners who started out with the crappy Oriental restaurant there?)

I just used to LOVE La Isla, recommended it to all my friends, took visitors from out of town there, etc. but was completely put off by the last two times I've been there.

You just gave yourself away by saying Give us a break. There was no better mexican food than what Grande did serve. And you never know,Cuban food might just be what this town needs.

I meant give us people on this thread a break with all the made up stuff.
I do go to La Isla alot, but I dont work there. I have never worked in a restaraunt nor do I want to because I would suck and never make a dime in tips.
Those that make a living at it has my respect because I couldnt do it and put up with all the crap that they have to put up with sometimes.
Also if you will notice you see alot of the same people there everytime you go, its a big joke among alot of us that none of us ever cook anymore.
I do eat at other places, but I am there every week too, for the amount of food you get and the price I would rather go there any day as far as local places.

I've never been impressed with the food or service. Went when they first opened, mediocre at best but thought I'd give them another chance since it had just opened...same experience the second time service was lackluster at best and this time food was inedible, soaked in grease, they never even offered to take it off the bill as the entire plate sat there as it was brought...haven't been back, for good Mexican food it's worth the drive to Frankfort.

Welcome new here!
La Isla is on Broadway, next to Med Stop(which is right beside Pizza Hut). It is straight across from the High School.
It is pretty easy to find.
And please dont let some of the negative comments on here keep you away from trying it.
Go and see for yourself and dont allow anyone else to keep you from trying it.
Many people here in Lburg are dedictated people, dedicated to their friends and their food lol
So with that being said, alot of people will make rude comments about other places if its not THEIR normal hang out.
You need to go and try it and form your own opinion, but be prepared ALOT of nights they are extremley busy, so with that being said you may want to try it on a night when the parking lot is not so packed, especially on a friday night when there is a home football game.

Thanks! I take opinions on this page with a grain of salt. I've driven past there, dont live too far! Was thinking about checking them out at lunch today. Are they open on Sundays?
