What a waste of money because i bought a quality scanner. If I had known they were going to eliminate the police scanner I would not have spent the money. I think the city did me a diservice.

An interesting way of looking at it there, Joe..An honest citizen needs a scanner for exactly what purpose...A dishonest citizen requires one so they can keep tabs on the location of the police as opposed to their location..They did you a disservice, how exactly do you figure that..You spent the money for something you didn't need or you are just another criminal and you spent your hard earned money....Its not a total loss though if you ever turned that scanner on you would know that
it does pick up the TAC channels and you can hear the dispatcher talking to the officers...You can't hear the officers relating their locations as you could have before.....You are sounding more and more like a criminal.....

I have a scanner because I like to know what's going on in my neighborhood or other neighberhoods that my family members live in. I guess this makes me a criminal? I have never even received a traffic citation?

You live in Oklaunion, how much crime is there? Criminal no I wouldn't say you are a criminal, but if you worry about your family members they should move..Wichita Falls made the decision they made on their accord, not yours....I understand the reasoning, but I also understand the hardships that come with it....I am glad you have never received a
traffic citation, I don't think that had anything to do with the point I was trying to convey...Then I guess you would have known that if you really understood the criminal element that operates around us....You have to support the police in their efforts to try to make their job easier...If that causes you discomfort quit writing to a forum and find a way to change the system...Can you?, I doubt it....Can I?, I know that I can't...Why?, because if you haven't noticed it is about the almighty dollar....

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY THE #1 GROWING BUSINESS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS IS THE PRISON SYSTEM.....

The reason is that so many of the people that listed are not doing it for a hobby, they are thrill seekers and want to show up to criminal events.

The other reason is that most if not all of the drug busts we have made include finding a police scanner in meth houses, etc. Guess what..sometimes the scanner is on and the house is empty, because they were listening.

WFPD, I can certaintly understand where you are coming from. However, it is a shame that the idiot criminals out there have to abuse something like this so that it ruins it for the rest fo us out there that just listen in for a hobby and nothing else, and many of us which cant afford to go out and spend several hundred dollars on a scanner that can pick up the newly digitized and encrypted frequencies.

Oddly enough, one of the guys that works with us in the mailroom at the Times Record News still carries an 800 MHz scanner that can pick up all WFPD radio communications, so what is really going on here, your a cop, you tell me, is there more to it than what people are being led to really bellieve. My father was in the fire department for many years in Houston w=and we had a scanner in the house for a long time, we heard everything on it, police, fire and ems, etc., outhere, i have noticed that the trump scanners can still pick up you guys talking back and fourth, so how does that work?

One can even adjust the crystals in some good old classic Cobra CB radios and pick up all those too. Back in the day we called them "funny frequencies". I can only think that it has something to do with the chip set and how it is laid out by brand. Other than that, I don't know anything out of the ordinary going on.

hey WFPD, thats cool, kind of interesting too, i didnt know about that. Out of curiosity, would you happen to know off hand of any online scanner feeds for the WFPD OR FD? I have looked all over but the closest thing i have found thus far appears to be in the Dallas/Ft Worth area??

Nah , I have looked also. It just hasn't gotten to a point where enough people demanded it. Now, one could theoretically host their own and use a personal server to broadcast it. Off hand though, only places like Harris county and Houston are on board with that as far as I know.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Houston seems easy enough to find online, It just kind of sucks when you cant afford to go and buy one lol. The newspaper doesnt pay the greatest, it covers the bills with a little extra every 2 weeks, thats about it.

Who knows, hopefully one day maybe there will be one for this area, I sure would like to see it happen, even with computers though its not quite the same as an actual scanner, someone would have to have a laptop with Wi Fi access to someones modem to be able to hear the audio feed if they didnt have a scanner on hand, thats what I would figure anyhow

Why don't you write an editorial letter about it and send it to the paper? I am sure there are many people that would agree with you and that would be a good first step in getting the ball rolling.

... actually, that sound like a good idea wfpd, I didnt even think about that. I dont want to ruffle any feathers sot o speak though or make any policemen upset about it, I just like to listen to talk mainly, talk radio, scanners etc.

This probably sounds a bit messed up but, scanners are sometimes quite entertaining to listen to, plus it is comforting to know that the policemen are out there protecting us night and day, it makes me sleep alot easier at night, by the way, thank you guys for serving, ya'll provide an invaluable service to our community!

I'll have to look into that, it might take a while though, im not the best with spelling lol.

So you think it's just that easy for anyone to pick up and move ... get a clue. Fact is, ALL citizens should be diligent about what's going on in their neighborhoods.
