The Jonathan Ayers story was already outrageous enough. Last September, Ayers, a 28-year-old Baptist pastor from Lavonia, Georgia, was gunned down by a North Georgia narcotics task force in the parking lot of a gas station.

Not to comment on the opinion of Mr. Balko, the facts in his story are way off base. Yes, there has been a revelation that Agent Harrison had discrepancies in his training records that were revealed in a Public Records request, however neither the agency or Harrison have had a chance to respond. And as far as the Barrett statements, Mr. Balko has them seriously out of order.
Regardless of the status of Harrison's certification, he was legally sworn by his sheriff and until recently, that was the simple requirement. And the fact that he was acting as a officer or without that authority does nothing to change the facts that Ayers was involved in criminal activity and that he and his family lied to the police about that day.

"he ... lied to the police about that day"

That is the stupidest thing I ever heard. I don't believe Jonathan Ayers gave any statements to the police the day he was gunned down, much less a dishonest statement.

Not even the police contend that Jonathan Ayers was doing any crimes when the jump out squad ambushed him and the civilian Billy Shane Harrison gunned him down.

He and his family was thew exact wording Mr. Finch, but don't let those facts get in the way, you never have before.
Mr. Ayers did in fact give statements to the police at the time of the accident when officers arrived on the scene. Once he was in custody, he may not have as that has not been released.
And it wasn't just the police that were lied to, Ayers lied to his wife and family about his actions that day. But again, the facts never got in the way of Mr. Finch's spewing.
