Why move to Royse City?

We have been thinking of moving to Royse City in the near future. We have a young family and will be very involved in school and community activities. However, many of the posts on this site have caused us to re-think our decision. We are looking for a small town with good values and where everyone knows and watches out for everyone else. Where all that matters is that you love the holy spirit, no matter which church you choose to do it in. Were we wrong to think we had found such a place in Royse City?

Why move to RC?? Because of our great streets, dedicated city council, outstanding city manager, excellent trash service, clean CURB & GUTTER streets, easy to deal with city hall, no city code violations, friendly people. Wait a minute, I was asleep and having a nightmare. Would you please buy my house so I can get out of here. Wanting to move back to the lower ward in new orleans.
Move here and do whatever you want.

Lee- Royse City is a great place to live. Please skim through these postings and you will see about 10 regulars on here that are negative about every posting. We have 3 children from preschool to high school, and my wife is very engaged in our children’s activities. The schools are great and very accessible. The teachers are all easy to talk to and promote parental involvement. We had some problems with a few past city officials but what community hasn't...the key is that it was identified. I work out of town and have to be able to feel good about my families safety, Royse City allows me to do that through the helpful/watchful neighbors and great police department. I am not a city "good ol boy" and have only lived here for 5 years. I have lived in Wylie, Rockwall and Garland and I can say Royse City has been my favorite and my children’s favorite place to live. What the city needs are more people like you that will get involved in the community and not just complain about it. Your family will love this city and the people that live here.

You would be better off looking elsehwere. This city is run by a bunch of backward rednecks who have no clue how to run a city effectively.

As sad as I am to say this, I can't lie or sugar coat the truth.

I would not be in Royse City if I had it to do over again. It is the most devisive, unfriendly, backward place.

The schools and kids are great, but some of the parents think they are still teenagers and as a result have taught their children little about proper behavior. Remember I said there are great kids.

The city government is ignorant and ill equipped to run a city. This is borne out by the many screw ups that have cost the citizens of Royse City dearly (close to 2 million). Our taxes are high, our city services lousy, and members of the police force enjoy harassing good local folks, for kicks or money, who knows.

Try Greenville or Terrell or Lavon it is a really up and coming town. Stay away from Quinlan.

Regular Reader has put it about as honestly as one can.
This was a really great town, but once it started going down it was like the titanic. Taxes are unreal for what we get. Our current City Council thinks out current City Manager is doing a great job! So there's at least another year and a half of these boobs that were going to fix everything.
Most definitely the rudest people I have ever encountered. And if you are not overweight and gossipy you will not even remotely fit in with the married w/ children crowd.
And lets not forget about the neighbors who argue in the front yard, oh wait that's just how they speak to one another!
We do have good schools for the most part. Our teachers are dedicated, but from what I have heard there are many area districts that have great teachers.
If I had it to do over again I would not do it here.
I second Lavon, also Lucas and Forney are really great for families.

Oddly enough, I can't think of any reason you would want to relocate RC. Although, I could write a book why you should not!

A small town is only as good as the people elected, hired, and appointed at city hall. Our city management and overight here is non-existent and disastrous! The town doesnt even have a grocery store, we buy our essentials at a gas station and the city has no plan in place to offer more to its citizens. They dont care. Most of the people who are on council do not even want to be. Its just an ego thing.

I'm sorry topix popped up on your search for Royse City. All the negative stuff you read on here comes from a small group of citizens who haven't bothered to update their gossip since last May. The city has had a few problems but that has put us ahead of most other cities because we are already adjusting to the bad economy and have things under control. We have some of the best church families around, all loving and caring people if you choose to get involved with them. Our schools are among the best in Texas bar none, just last week we had a banquet honoring those who committed $100,000 to an Educational Foundation to help students to be able to do even more than the norm. We don't have a chain grocery store, but since the nay-sayers mentioned that we are all fat, it's obvious that we are not really having trouble finding food. Come on out and visit with us and I think you will find our little town a breath of fresh air, except for topix.

Lee, I sincerely hope you find more informative ways to investigate this town other than topix. I surveyed several of my neighbors tonight (oddly, none of whom are overweight or gossipy - and are all married with children) and they said they would all move here again. All are transplants to RC within the last two years. I've lived here since 1978 and I can't imagine anyone who knows me or my family saying we are unfriendly or unwelcoming. I'm sorry you cannot get an intelligent opinion here, but there are plenty of us who love our town, I assure you. That being said, it goes without saying that this town is not perfect. It needs improvements in many areas. But it is a good town with loads of good people not represented by the narrow minded persons here. As for your statement about churches, there are excellent churches here that welcome new residents. The church leader who regularly posts on topix is far more interested in driving people away from God than drawing them to Him and he does NOT serve as an example of the rest of the churches in RC.

Nothing horrible, nothing real good...trash gets picked up when it's supposed to...water bill is usually correct, City Council talks a good game, but does little, not to be confused with nothing for us. Police Department is underrated and gets unnecessarily bashed. Work in Greenville, lived in Dallas and Rockwall...good resting point, don't plan on staying long if you care...Oh yea, no freakin' grocery store!!!

Not a bad place to live but we are also planning to leave Royse City to relocate elsehwere, we want to experience both the small town feel but we also want some basic places services for shopping, etc. If the city had an Economic Development Corporation in place, it might have a better chance in the longterm. I know most cities have committees for designing economic progressive plans, RC has really fallen short in this arena. We have been looking in Wylie, Lavon, and Prosper.

Actually, I think the TOPIX venue is a smart search. You will find people that will speak the truth without sugar-coating. Many say it, how it is. Of course, you have a small group of maybe 2 people that have different opinions and they think the city is turning the corner. These people are living in a fairy-tale according if you review the overwhelming majority of comments. Good luck!

This is my first time posting on this forum. I found this a few weeks ago and I am appaled by the few people on here that continually bash our town. Where is yalls pride?

I have a code that I have learned to live by and tell others very often in Royse City. If you don't like how the town is run, then get off you complaining butts and do something about it! I am a board member of one of the cities youth sports organizations. I could have sat back and complained just like 90% of the parents and coaches do. NO! I am a coach, a board memeber and everyday try to make a difference. Yes, this city is screwed up, yes our city council has screwed things up in the past.

You people need to take a step back and look at what Royse City has gone through in a short time. Just a few years ago Royse City was just a sleepy little farming town of under 2,000 residents. Builders came in and in a short time the city had a population close to 11,000. Unfortunately our city leaders though that time got fat on building permit fee's but had no plan or vision on how to make this city better.

I was wanting to compare Royse City to Frisco in the early 90's when I was growing up there but with a few differances.
First, our residents DON"T WANT TO DO A DAMN THING TO MAKE THINGS BETTER! Most of you are waiting for someone else to do it for you!
Second, related to above, get some city leadership with some vision! All that I have heard since I have got involved is "THIS IS THE WAY WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE IT IN ROYSE CITY"
Third, the economy needs to rebound and the city needs to raise building permit fee's and to make developers pay for roads, infastructure, retail areas and parks (especially new baseball/softball fields; selfish on my part!)

I see alot of Frisco circa 1993 in Royse City. In no ways do I want to see Royse City get that big but a grocery store and basic city improvements sure would be nice.

My wife and I decided to list our house last month due to the lack of amnenties; no gorcery store, no shopping or any type of services offered in this town. Some of us have waited too long for any progress without any improvements, we are tired of driving so far for food items, etc.

I have lived in Royse City for a year now. For the most part we like it. I actually like not having a grocery store in town. Where is it going to go? There is lots of empty land by my house and I perfer it stay that way. I didn't move to a small town to have a grocery store or grocery store traffic in my backyard. I do have one problem that really should be addressed and that is the crazy water bills! Even the mayor can't explain exactly how the billing works! We have lived all over the country and never have I consistantly had a $100 water bill that doesn't even include trash! 2 of my neighbors-one is a single guy-had a $300 bill not long after they moved into their houses. We went over everything they had been doing and there was no explanation for it. Other than that I haven't had any problems amd would over all recommend Royse City.

Floyd, topix is not an accurate reporting of the opinions of the residents of this town. We have over 10,000 residents in the RC area and how many voice their views on topix? 20? On a good week? I spend more time talking to residents face to face, day in and day out. The people in our neighborhood really enjoy this town despite the problems with city management and the lack of a grocery store. Of course, if the lack of a store was all it took to make me leave, I would have left years and years ago. I just don't see any reason for the vindictive, vile verbage that's slung around here day after day. It's unproductive and, quite frankly, should be beneath any rational, intelligent adult.

I will actually take sides with Floyd, Mr Happy Go-lucky!!! I see no vindictive comments, from Floyd, whatsover! Appears to be factual. Why do all you people personally attack other viewpoints for no reason??? Is it that the truth hurts and you all dont want to hear the real deal. Sorry, some of us are brutally honest. You may be right, we have 10K peeps in RC; only a couple hundered vote for their worthless buddies at election time, so your point is mute, very few actually care in this town. You should be glad there are a few passionate folks remaining. Most have already moved on due to the lack of services. They have disengaged and stopped caring! The people supporting this town and its efforts have all but disappeared.
