Let me start by saying that I don't have children, so maybe I'm missing something. Maybe people want their children to die in a terrible car accident.

In the past two weeks, I have seen 3 separate groups of children (ranging in estimated ages of 9 to 16) standing in the middle of the road, "tagging" or as I like to say "begging for money."

Most recently (and frustrating) was a group of 14-16 year old boys at the intersection of 75 and 52. I nearly rear ended a car while turning onto 75 because I don't expect people to be standing in the road, holding up traffic. I wonder what would have happened if the car I hit had hurt or even killed one of those children?

But I digress! This week, I watched my 14 year old cousin volunteer to help with heavy farm work for which he was monetarily compensated. I suggest that these baseball teams (yes, even the 9 year olds I almost hit on Brinkley Bridge) find an HONEST way to make money. Have a bake sale, a car wash, do chores at people's houses, contact a local restaurant to work for tips one evening or take up babysitting.

I don't care what these kids do as long as they aren't standing in the road causing hazardous conditions for drivers!

Kids now day's don't have no value they are some but very few. They think ever think need's to be handed to them, they don't have no values. When I grew up we had to pack water in 5 gallon buckets out of the well house had a outside john. So please kids teenagers stay out of the road ask your elders if they have any work for you to due, are just due it for them. they would greatly be happy to see the help.

When I went to school many, many years ago, the ball teams, band and other groups worked for their money in form of bake and hotdog sales, car washes, window washing, raffles and rummage sales. Set a good example for these children and make them realize you don't take handouts in life but work for it.

No, an honest way to make money would require some actual work and original though on the part of their parents. I love that when the homeless do it, it's called panhandling and illegal, but when the kids do it, it's fundraising. I call the cops every time I see them, and I suggest everyone do the same. Another thing to consider is that they wouldn't do it if they didn't make money. The people giving them money are the ones who perpetuate this bullshit.

the band and the cheerleaders wash cars, and the boys beg in the street...lmao. i refuse to give them money, just because i feel if I do they will think they are successful and come back in a few months. Don't give them anything, they will find another (hopefully less dangerous) way to raise money.

I too must say that it is crazy for those kids to be standing out in the middle of the road. I for one have serious health problems, that sometimes impairs my vision, but so far it has not prevented me from driving. What about the old people who don't see well? You would have to be an idiot to allow your children to stand out in the middle of the road expecially at the rt 75 intersection, I have seen so many people run that traffic light. The adults that allow this, are just plain ignorant.

I always slow down like I am going to give them money, and yell at the adults to get their children out of the road. Somehow, that makes me a bitch. I call it a concerned citizen.

the only way to get the kids out of the middle of the road is for everyone to stop giving to them.
Ridiculous

It is completely ridiculous that these children are subjected to such danger to get money for their expenses. They should instead organize a fundraiser in the park or some other place where the community members can come and contribute to the teams they love to support. It is much too dangerous to have these kids, no matter what age, to stand in the middle of the highway. What is the most shocking is that most of the time, there are NO adults monitoring, or no police around to ensure safely direct the traffic. I read once that the most dangerous job in the US is flagman for the state road. Now, consider this, and the fact that the state road has warning signs etc. These kids do not even have an orange vest or official signs out to ensure drivers are warned of their presence. I would be ashamed as a teacher, ball coach, etc. to have these kids stand out in the middle of the road begging for money. Inexcusable.
Permits

Do they have to at least get a permit to do this? One would think so. Do the police here even care? Do something, Wayne, stand up for these kids, since their parents don't object to this, we should as a community stand up and change this action.

Omg Really? It's ok for bikers to stand in the street to raise money for Christmas, or firefighters to stand in the street for you to put money in their boots? But my god when some children do it, we need to call the police. God didn't bless you with children because you are most likely a dried up old bitch.(Male or female). I am sure parents and coaches stand with the children and keep an eye on them. So why don't you quit bitching and get your old wrinkly asses a life? Jesus some people should just be euthanized. If you are going to be that big of a douchebag, why even bother living? Dicks.:) I'm not saying there shouldn't be precautions, but getting on here and bitching about it isn't going to make it safer for the kids. They're going to do it anyway so get over it.

If you knew how to read you'd know that some of us call the police when we see them out there, so we're not just bitching about it. You sound like a parent that's too lazy to come up with an honest fundraiser so you put your kids out in the road to panhandle. Guess you don't care about your kids enough to spend more time with them than that.

It will stop when a child is accidentally killed while "tagging". I have seen so many close calls myself. I can't believe parents continue to allow their children to stand in the middle of a busy highway and beg. Unbelievable...
