I think a mandatory water restriction should have already been in place for Oconee County. I live 3 miles out of Walhalla and my trees are dying, the leaves are turning brown on my River Birch, my huge Poplar and other trees and on the ground like it is fall.
My grass and the neighbor's grass is brown and the ground is hard as a rock. All we have had out here on Pickett Post Road is a a sprinkle of rain in 2 months or more. I can't even reember when we had a good soaking rain.
A 5 min shower is all we have had and afterwards one can still see the dry land around the roots of the trees so nothing is getting any beneficial watering.
Why let people contiune to wash their cars and water their lawns if we are in a severe drought? It makes no sense to me.
I try to conserve water but see all of the time people using all of the water they want on their lawns and their automobiles. I think car washes should close down while we are in a drought like this. Who needs a clean car and no water to drink?
Why wait until no more water can be pumped before mandatory water restrictions go into effect?
Look at how much water it takes to flush a commode and how many people urinate 6 to 10 times a day and more if on a diuretic, consuming alcohol, drinking a lot of drinks with caffine in them or a lot of water.
I save water and don't flush all day unless doing a bad number! I put my tissue in a garbage bag and that way it does not clog the commode!
I put 2 pails in the shower to catch the water when showering and use that water to flush the commode or water plants. People have got to wake up and stop using all of the already critically low water supply. Education is the key and mandatory water restrictions.
Thank you, Rita B. Davis (Walhalla, SC)
