Despite what this nasty @zz evil store owner says, "Redneck" does not mean racist!

It means hard-working rural white farmer types who's necks get sun burned from working on the farm.

It really ticks me off to no end that this guy (the store owner) is trying to turn the name "Redneck" into a hateful thing that means something like "Klansman".

From the Wiki definition:
The word began as a pejorative classist slur with a racial component, indicating poor, ignorant persons of European descent, but has also been 'reclaimed' and is now often used by those wishing to show pride in their heritage and/or upbringing.

Is this the GOP South Carolina headquarters by any chance?

Until the Republican Party chases off the Bush rednecks no one in the West or North will take them seriously.

Well that doesn't contradict anything I said.

You don't think that being, poor, white and relatively uneducated equates being a Klansman do you? Well it doesn't.

And also note that my sunlight theory is even listed under wikipedia's "Possible American etymologies" of the word.(Though it does call my theory "unlikely" in favor of some others.)

I see you are from Enterprise, AL which is where my family spent alot of time when my Dad was stationed at Rucker. The word might have started this way however, I am classified as being "Redneck" and I am by no means a racist. So, I like the second part of the definition that you posted - showing pride in their heritage. I am very proud to be a Southerner and am very proud to have country roots but I am not a racist.

Wrong, how did Bush get where he is now if noone in the North and West didn't take the Republicans serious.

Who was the last president of the country that come from the North or the West?

You know damn well that rednecks don't wear white robes or shirts with hateful, racist slogans on them so don't give them a bad name. This shop needs to be closed and the KKK needs to be shut down. They do absolutely nothing for the community except incite hate and ignorance. They are worthless, no good trash and it's time someone took the trash out for good.

It's the 21st century people, and the rest of the world is progressing while we regress back to the destructive past where women had no say and blacks were murdered for no reason.

Those KKK losers are what we should fear, not our differences.

Let's get back our RED WHITE AND BLUE POWER.

Think people, THINK.

I second that. Good, God fearing rednecks have been given a bad name by the ones that have chosen to be racist. I have zero respect for the KKK. And I hate to say it but I believe that they are still around. KKK members profess to believe in God and what is right and wrong - guess what, that ain't the God or Bible that I believe in. My God teaches that you should not mistreat another human being.

Actually that is not where the term came from. It originated in W.Va. when the coal miners were trying to bring in the union. Some of the miners were ready to fight so in order to distiguish themselves from Company men in the hills they wore red bandanas....locals called them the Rednecks. The name doesn't have anything to do with sunburned farmers.

The government should not get involved. The government failed miserablely to take care of the confederate symbols long ago as they should have.

That the Confederate Flag flys on the Capital Grounds of South Carolina is a much bigger issue if you ask me. This totally is a slap in the face of all the tax paying residents in South Carolina who are offended by the confederate flag. And the Union Army Soilders who gave their lives to defend the Constitution of America, that pledge signed by the representative of those confederate states at the formation of the Country.

The flag is a symbol of insurgency against the Government of the United States of America, further more I believe all the leaders of the insurgency should have been shot as traitors, but we allow the southern states to raise statues of these tratiors and insurgents.

The flag being raised on a number of southern capital after swearing an alligence during reconstruction should have been dealt with long ago.

Buzz Flederjon, for your information, the GOP is not the party of racism.
Historically, the most notorious racist groups in the South were all run by Southern Democrats. Southern Democrats, indeed, OPPOSED racial integration and FOUGHT all attempts at Civil Rights reform.
The GOP is, incidentally, the political party of Abraham Lincoln, and virtually ALL Civil Rights legislation proposed through the 20th Century was brought to the floor by Republicans.
FYI, in the 1960s, Senator Al Gore Sr. was just one of the majority of Democrats who tenaciously OPPOSED equal rights for blacks, and Democrat Senator Robert Byrd (who is STILL in office) was a LEADER of the Ku Klux Klan in West Virginia.
You need to think twice and brush up on your history before calling the GOP the party of racists and rednecks, little man.
I think that George Wallace is a prime example to support your post:

I like being called a redneck especially by blacks. It helps blacks realize that I too am a man with a defined culture and I might add that I am white and proud and make no excuses. only in say, prison or in a situation would I ever exibit my pride with force. The media has really pissed off whites because we have seen t-shirts with all types of black hate speach directed at all whites at flea markets, on street corners, etc. The whole say it loud campaign needs to end!!!
