Some people should have free speech and some people should have theirs taken away.

I will volunteer to be the arbiter of who gets this so called right. If you complain, your right to free speech will be taken away.

<quoted text>WHAT YOU SAY IS THE TRUTH. IT'S A TWO WAY STREET WITH THOSE PEOPLE. THEY COMMIT MOST ALL ROBBERIES, MURDERS, CARJACKINGS, ETC BUT GO BALLISTIC WHEN WHITEY SHOWS A NOOSE. BLACKS ARE THE BIGGEST RACIST ON THE PLANET, THEY CAN EXPRESS THEIR VIEW, BUT NO ONE ELSE IS ALLOWED.
"Those people"?? Nice. Stay Classy, Latin King. Do you ever think that if perhaps minorities had access to the greater society in the same way the hegemonic social groups do that perhaps they would have other outlets to explore? Sure, there is a degree of personal responsibility here, but if you've grown up in a community that does not have the resources and educational opportunities to foster a mature and socially responsible conscience, what do you think the outcome will be? And obviously a noose is offensive. Of course it is. It is not just a symbol, but an actual tool of violent oppression in this country against a certain racial group. Lastly, to say blacks are the biggest racists around... that is a bit general. But if we go with your understanding as such, don't they have a right to be when what they know is that historically white people have killed and threatened them? I'd be a little upset too if I had that sort of history with another group of people. In fact, I do. As a woman, I am fearful of men because of the history of oppression women have faced. I understand not all men are to be feared, but don't I have a right to generalize in an effort to keep myself safe and address my grievances?

Hard to believe that in this day and age there are still yokels left that would even go in to his shop. That said, free enterprise is free enterprise and free speech is free speech. I will note that I was driving on some highway in Mississippi a few years back and saw a shop called "Confederate Collectilbles". Amazing.

I'm not a biggot and I'm not a racist. I believe in live and let live whether it concerns people, the animal kingdom or our environment. However, if you want freedom of speech to convey your message, you have to allow that same right to everyone else, even if you vehemently disagree with their views. I disagree with everything the KKK stands for and I condemn all of their illegal actions through the years.

Mar Mar. On topix today, they have a discussion regarding Mugabe and his stealing white-owned businesses. So much for the idea that only whites discriminate. And he has driven his country to the breaking point. So much for your idea that if given opportunites, they will take them. Why is Africa such a huge failure? To paraphrase my idol, Michelle Obama, ain't no white people there.

Minorities in this country are minorities because, with the exception of African-Americans, they chose to move here and build a life. And they made that decision knowing that the country was settled by, created by and built by Europeans. They understood that. In Asia, whites are minorities, are they not. I wonder how they are treated. In Latin America, whites are a minority. I wonder how they are treated.

Minorities have all the same opportunities as do whites here. Let's not pretend otherwise. But there is no excuse, there is never an excuse for a life of crime. There is no excuse for the fact that a small minority of people perpetrate the majority of crimes.

This is the funny thing about our media. If it's White on Black racisim, it will make national news. If it's Black on White racisim, it's not only ignored, but encouraged.

The store does have the right, under the Constitution, to be open. That having been said, I think it's tasteless and tacky. And the term redneck is an inaccurate one. Redneck is a term that is slowing being used synonymously with racist and bigot. It didn't used to be. That's sad.

I'm sorry, but you must enlighten me. What is wrong with a shop selling Confederate Collectibles? I could be naive, but a shop selling Confederate Collectibles would make me think it was a antique type shop specializing in items from the period of the Civil War--not modern day items designed to inflame bigotry and hate.

it is his establishment .. to sell goods as he sees fit.
If he has the clients to maintain his business than he'll survive.
Just like the sex shops that sell their videos and toys ..
or the tobacco shop ...
or the gun shop ...
or the mystical goods shop ..
he can sell what he wants as long as his business can survive.

Pardon my spelling, could. I am not a racist but don't attack someone else when the same could be said to you. If you don't like the store or what it stands for, don't shop there. Just like if you don't like BET, CMT, MTV, or whatever, don't watch it.
