What a wonderful problem indeed. Downtown areas failed in the past because it became easier to access other parts of the city. If parking continues to be a problem people will start spending money elsewhere.

yea that's a really lame point of view our mayor chose to take. why not come up with a possible solution to the problem? it's worked in the past atleast.

Some people just want to sit on their a-- and complain about everything. Try to get off your --- and do something worth while.

It's not my job john. I don't control the parking in downtown. Hence, the mayor has work to do.

This is and old bait and switch trick of the mayor's office. "Parking is a problem and we will be writting tickets." Yep for 2 days to one week max. Then the problem is not heard of for another 5 YEARS! So was it really a problem or are they lazy for stopping enforcement? Same with parking on lawns, abandoned cars and those trailers that are suppose to be moved out of the city.

My favorite group sitting on their ass not doing anything is the Laurel Police Department. Good going not doing anything about crack houses, illegal aliens or using the 40 plus thousand of new motorcycles. The new Sherriff that a really don't care for is putting their department to shame in job performance. He still can't find an illegal alien though.

Not sure about the parking problem, but seems it like there has always been a lack of adequate parking in downtown L-Town. I like the Mayor he is a great guy, however I believe his idea that people are investing in laurel is a little whitewashed by locals that use the city for there own gain. Sadley I believe the Mayor id being used to help a certain group to skirt under the radar. AS far as LPD I believe they do a adequate
could there be room for improvment, yes there is always somthing you can do better. The JCSO has less officers then LPD but does a better job as a whole. the new JCSO is betetr then ever Sherriff Hodge is out ever night with his men on the road going to calls, say what you will but he is a active leader that seems to not mind getting in there working and doing the job and Sherriff and deputy. I did not vote for the new sherriff but now i'm happy he is the one in charge of JCSO.
As far as Jones Co. and Laurel we have so of the best volunteer fire and first responders in the state that are trained and equipped with some of the latest equipment to handle anything we may face in the area, also the LFD has some great firefighters who are prepared and always ready for whatever task they face. I do know the LFD has at time assisted the JCVFD when they were in need. Laurel has great people but it also seems to only be the people that have money that can get ahead in L-TOWN.

I don't know, when you got crack houses that should celebrate their tenth and fifteenth anniversary, I don't see how you could call that adequate or a good job. Perhaps that is as good as any Town USA averages but then again that's the problem with this country. We are doing just as good as the other failures and bragging about.

Maybe this town would do better if they stopped worrying about the drugs on 1-59 Heading to Atlanta and started worrying about the drugs 3 or 4 blocks from the police department. They'll never get most of the drugs on the interstate but if they wanted to they could get most of the drugs in Laurel. Don't want to do that cause they know the dealers. Don't know the guy with Texas plates on I-59 and there is your problem as it always is with laurel. Everyone knows everyone so they mess with out of towners plus you get to meet new people on the interstate and maybe an exiting load of drugs rather than messing with the same people over some petty 10 crack rocks. More fun to find 20 pounds of cocaine on the interstate than 30 grams of crack on Laurel streets. A bill really should be sent to Atlanta and Birmingham for keeping drugs off their streets.

So to sum it up they don't care. If they did the dealers would be getting arrested much like they are in the much more spread out county. More cops yet can't find the dealers. CAUSE THEY ARE ON I-59 instead of the neighborhoods. If you see LDP in a neighborhood they are answering a call and not on patrol. I don't think a majority of police have known what patroling is in Laurel since the mid 80s.

They do not care. Which is fine with me. Just tell the brass and mayor to stop going on WDAM telling me what a fine job they are doing.

What parking problem? Yeah if you have to park in front of a door and be the future owner of a Hoveround.

Plenty of empty parking downtown unless you are fat and lazy. If so Then there's no parking for miles and you should ask the mayor to come and get you.

I use to live in Laurel, Ms and the LPD really sucks. I reported a hit and run to the LPD and the person that hit my car was a drug dealer. They did nothing to him, but told me to go and work something out with him. Now what do I look like going up to a drug dealer asking him to fix my car. They know all the drug dealers but are afraid of them or might be getting paid by some of them.. They are corrupt.
