A Whitney woman was under the influence of alcohol when her car crashed into a tree on Dec. 19, 2010, causing fatal injuries to a passenger, state police allege.

Lisa K. Fannon, 33, of 223 Leechman St., was charged on Thursday with homicide by vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless endangerment, driving on the wrong side of the highway, reckless driving, and driving at an unsafe speed in connection with the crash that occurred about 2:30 a.m.

State police in Greensburg said Richard B. Warren II, 31, a Hostetter resident who was a rear-seat passenger in Fannon's 1998 Ford Contour, died of his injuries Feb. 8, 2011, in UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh. Warren was a sergeant in the Army Reserve and had served two tours of duty in Iraq and one in Italy.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht determined that the cause of death was multiple blunt-force injuries that he sustained in the one-vehicle accident.

After Warren's death, police obtained a search warrant to acquire Fannon's medical records from the hospital, where she was treated after the accident. Police said tests showed she had a blood-alcohol content of 0.146 percent at the time of the crash.

Police said Fannon, Warren and a front-seat passenger, Dennis Garris of Hostetter, were on their way home from Mundy's Bar in Marguerite when Fannon failed to negotiate a curve along Lemmon Road.

Police were unable to question Fannon at the time because of her medical condition, but Trooper Nicholas Iera reported he could "detect a strong odor of alcohol coming from her" as she was being treated in an ambulance.

A preliminary hearing will be scheduled before Unity Township District Judge Michael Mahady.

Anyone know the status of this? It seems this hasn't stopped her from drinking as I've seen her out at the local watering holes.

I grew up with Rick, it's a shame this had to happen to him. I hope they throw the book at her and she spends the full amount of time in jail.

Was this the Rick Warren that had a motor route with his father with the Trib a few years back?

Loki, the parole office is for people convicted of crime not simply charged. Lisa has not been found guilty of anything other that looking fine in a pair of jean shorts. People are charged with crime all the time only to have charges dropped at a prelim.

Let the justice system work before condemning her.

In most cases you are right, but in certain instances people are monitored before their hearings as a condition of the bond. I knew someone busted for a drug offence. While out on bond they had to attend drug and alcohol classes plus report to the parole office for drug testing. I guess it depends of the Judge and the conditions set for bond.

I agree with you she should be reported. If you see her out at a bar call the PSP and report her.

That mistake in judgement cost Richard Warren his life. She should go to jail.

Now come on he wasn't driving, she broke the law in doing so and caused his death. jail time is what is needed here. And if she is going to bars like others have said here she should be under house arrest now.

Yes we have all made mistakes, but she has not learned from her mistakes. She continues to go out to bars and drink. This is a violationo from her PAROLE! Parole for a previous offense. She was on PAROLE when this accident happened. She was on house arrest and should not have even left her house. Not only did she break PAROLE by leaving her house, she drank as well. And man lost his life. If she has any remorse for her actions she sure doesn't show them. Piece of Shit.

A live was lost due to Lisa's drunking. She didn't learn from her drug arrest so why would you think she would learn from this. This woman should be put in jail for the maximum amount of time.

If you see this woman out at a bar snap a picture with your cell phone and email it to her probation officer. This woman belongs in jail plain and simple.

Good idea Paul. Now if someone only does it. My question is why is she not under house arrest in the first place?

Did she make him get into the car????????? Poor judgement all the way around. It is a terrible accident but both passengers Im sure were aware she was drinking. It is terrible that someone lost their life but I feel that they are all to blame!
