Going down Rt 30 near latrobe sits an adult bookstore, this evening when I passed I saw protesters out side with signs and video cameras.

I guess they hope the news picks up on this but all they are doing by doing this is letting more people know about this place and thus they will get more business during the hours the protestors aren't there. I give them credit for doing this but it won't so any good in the end. It will still be here after all it's been here since the 70's I think.

I saw them also on my way home from shopping. If someone wants to go into that place it's there right and those people need to get a life and let them. Next thing they will be protesting at the newsstand because they sale playboy.

They were protesting there this summer from a Christian movement as well.

I agree, it's there, there's a market, as long as the place is safe -- what can really be done. Either there or on the internet...

The whole point is that this is an unsavory business, adjacent to a catholic college, and is not really something one can be proud of for any reason. Is this what you Latrobeans want? This is not a necesssary evil. People who think they need this smut can get it on the Internet. I'm surprised the fathers from St. Vincent have not burned it down.

Hunter, you spelling fiend you. No, it is not a person's right to have porn available at the side of the road at any given moment. There are decency laws to protect the innocent; otherwise, the people who sell Playboy and related materials wouldn't have to hide them.

The adult bookstore bothers NOBODY! They are not flashing neon signs or have naked girls standing out front. It would take a second glance to even notice what is behind that fence. I have shopped there for novelty gifts for bachelorette parties, jokes, etc. Why are they protesting it now? Its been there FOREVER! I am not saying I NEED this smut, Reallie, but I have the right to have the option to shop for it. No one is forced to shop there. If you are offended by the material they sell, then stay out. Simple as that. One adult bookstore in Latrobe is NOT the sole identifying factor of this town or of its residents that live here. They are a BUSINESS!!! They provide jobs and pay taxes like the rest of us. Adult consensual sex with anything the adult bookstore sells is legal and a personal preference of an adult behind closed doors. Why are you people protesting where I buy my vibrator? Are they harming society by selling me something I use in the privacy of my own home, legally! Give me a break!!! As for the internet, I prefer to support a LOCAL business, thank you very much.

Well Jenna, you are missing the point entirely. The bookstore does not bother you - therefore, it bothers nobody? Have you no sense of modesty? No one said you do not have the right to shop for whatever you feel you need. The protest is the location.

How do they bother you? Do they send you explicit fliers in the mail? Do they call you at home to offer products/services? Do they have ads in the local paper your children may see? I wanna know, how DO THEY BOTHER YOU???
Modesty in what way? I keep sexual encounters/toys behind closed doors, as does the Adult Bookstore. No one is forced to go in there. Its restricted to adults only. Did I forget to mention there is a fence blocking the view from the highway? Not that they have anything disturbing or explicit on the building either.
It is out in the township. Like I said, they don't have neon signs out front, its not like they are really visible. Where do you suggest they move to? They are convenient to the residents who appreciate it as a job creating tax paying business. That's why I will continue to shop there.

Why? Because its not worthy to you?

I have zero respect for Catholics. I despise the church and what it stands for. That's my opinion and I am entitled to it. But I will not jump on a protest just to try to demise something I don't believe in. That's what you people are doing. You don't agree with pornographic material, therefore you will try to run it outta town. If it doesn't directly affect you adversely why jump on the bandwagon? It is legal!!!

The subject 'worthiness' is in the eye of the beholder.

I may not support your subsequent posts, but this is well written. A business has a right to 'do business.' Um, move on protestors. Let's protest something TRULY CONTROVERSIAL --

Thank you very kindly Latrobe Too. The church thing may have been a little to controversial to use as an example. My point in that post, was just that there are a lot of things people don't all agree with or think is moral. But most of us, LOOK THE OTHER WAY and ignore it. We tolerate and embrace the differences in people and their preferences. Its the few who don't agree with something. So they 'protest' things they don't understand or agree with.

McDonald's food is more harmful to your children than the yellow sign they see at The Adult Bookstore when you drive them down Rt 30.(If they look away from their DVD player or Nintendo long enough.) I agree, Move On!!!
