Im just looking for opinions, maybe a friendly debate. There may be one of these on here already, but I didnt see it. I just want to do this so both sides can get first hand input. Skaters - Non skaters.

Please no hateful, spiteful things need to be said here. Lets just here both stories.

Ummm, are you asking some sort of question? I don't really understand what it is you want to discuss exactly?

There's nothing wrong with riding a skateboard, but don't tell that to a Derry cop. Any form of fun is forbidden in Derry. Unless of course, you're a heroin junkie. You'll most likely get away with that.

I beg to differ with you on this. Derry cops let them get away with riding them anywhere in town. But many people are putting in security cameras to build there case against them the damage they do to cemment sidewalks and steps all over town. The parents buy these things knowing they child has no where to ride them here in town. The good thing is the security cameras provide the evidence ones needs to sue the parents for the damage they do if the kid is under the age of 18. One town council person has told many people to get these as this will help build ones case.

Sounds to me like he or she wants an opinion on the skatepark for our area.

Those parks bring nothing but trouble for the area they are in. Vote no if you get the chance too vote it down.

I have to disagree. We have a skatepark in our town and there have been no incidences of trouble. They actually keep it clean and "police" it themselves.

Sure they do, maybe you should read the police reports and see for yourself how many times the police have had to go there for fights. Some of those kids down even want to share the use of thoseparks they think it was made just for them.

I'm pretty sure you aren't talking about our skatepark. My husband is a police officer and we don't have any trouble with our park. As a matter of fact, some of the older skaters give lessons to the younger ones. I'm sorry your park has had problems but to lump them all together is wrong.

Kids need some place to do something or they are just going to get themselves into trouble. I'm all for a skatepark.

I hate to see the warm weather we will have to deal with them again. Nice thing about winter they can't use them

i love how in town by family video thru weldon street from alexanderia thru jefferson streets are posted as no skate boarders allowed on those streets area, and those are the ones the kids love to ride in the middle of town all the time - real close to store doors -- i hope one of them speed freaks hit some lil old ass lady some time, and let the cops spank the butt of the old lady for walking on the street - the skate boarders own the town... like the grafitti painters all over town

I agree, but a little harsh!
Any suggestions on how to entertain/occupy these juvenile obstructors-of-justice?

I say lets let them use the upstairs in the City Council building, to learn card games. Or lets get together with the City Park near the fountain, across from the post office and have a microphone and Karaoke at nights for anyone to provide the town with entertainment, like from 6 PM to 9 PM.
