If he did steal that treasure, then sure I could see the suicide angle.

Controversy for sure! No obituary in Trib yet... Costs money. No viewing, no funeral...Draws a crowd including undesirables & news crews. Who will pay for it all? Maybe he'll be buried at sea much like the jewels he sought. Very sad. Pray that those he left behind, his family & true friends can somehow, someway find peace. RIP Jay.

Jay Miscovich was nothing more than a common thief. The entire emerald story was a hoax to separate honest folks from their money. Jay had a good story, but his own greed even exceeded his stupidity. He screwed with the wrong people in NYC and Key West. This was after he ripped off everybody he knew in Latrobe. Scumbag.

Mother died recently wrote:
His mother died within the past two months. He was probably severely depressed over her death. He was very bright in high school and along with his school-teacher mother, went into the slumlord business in Latrobe.
Really? Severely depressed over his mothers death?

That only happens to adults that either didn't help their mother or caused her death. You should know all about that.

I knew Jay personally and he was a great and giving human being. Never stole anything , I know for certain he found that treasure because I seen them with my own eyes and held each of it carefully as we documented them. He was one the best persons I knew and it's a shame that those who said cared for him, used him until he had no money then they left. But we know who his real friends were and knew the real jay Miscovich.
He was sick and as to oppose dying slowly he went out to the last place he was truly happy and ended his life there. I still can't believe your gone jay. Love ya. Miss you and rest in peace darlin. May The Lord bless and keep you. Xoxoxo

I think the Coroner, Detectives and Ligonier Police that were on scene would have figured out through their investigation if he was murdered. You people and your conspiracy theories are ridiculous. Get a life you uneducated pinheads.

I don't know what became of Jay over the past few years, but let me tell you what I do know. Jay saved my mother and I from losing our home to foreclosure. He purchased our home for the amount left on the mortgage and allowed us to stay there for 6 months - free of charge - while we found a place. He also agreed to get rid of anything we didn't want to move - and in a house you live in for 20 years, it certainly adds up. During this time, my Mom and I were going through a rough financial time - and he was always there... he even came to replace a toilet that was clogged - no charge. He was, in many ways, a saint to us. He even purchased the appliances from us - which helped us pay our security deposit at our new place. No matter what Jay found himself involved in, he was still a good person and had a good heart.

Has it even occurred to anyone that maybe he was trying to get someone else out of trouble.... After watching this: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/... it really made me wonder if that's why he isn't releasing the man's name.

I am sure Jay is with his mother now, who was a wonderful, spunky, old lady. I remember being 18, Jay brought her to the house to replace the toilet. I lit a cigarette and she asked me for one. I handed her one and whispered, "Shh... Jay thought I quit years ago, but I've been smoking ever since."

No matter what happened, I am certain he's found his paradise - and there will be more than enough treasure to go around. RIP Jay

Hey Tarty Moron: Read what a Federal Judge said this week about your crooked friend, Jay Miscovich. He took shitty emeralds and told people they were from the Colonial Era. In truth, they were junk. He ripped off millions from investors and when confronted by the truth, he killed himself instead of doing his time in jail. He was just a fat slob of a their - and his buttboy partner, Elchlepp will be doing time shortly in a Federal prison for his part in this scam.
